Commercial Description:
Brewed in Belhaven for Innis & Gunn.
Only available filtered and pasteurised in bottles.
"The base beer used is fundamentally different from Innis & Gunn Original Oak Aged Beer. Roasted barley gives a light roasted character, with Slovenian hops providing a citrus aroma and zesty flavour. In April 2005, a specially brewed batch of this beer was filled into 100 hand selected ‘first fill’ bourbon casks to begin 107 days of unique character transformation."

2006 Limited Edition Innis & Gunn are delighted to present the 2006 Limited Edition. This year we have chosen to oak-mature a style of beer that is darker, with a chocolate character from the roasted barley in the recipe, and aromatic, thanks to the use of zesty Slovenian hops. Available in Waitrose (UK) and in the LCBO, Ontario, Canada. Colour: Ruby Palate: Devilishly luxurious, rich chocolate character with a flourish of zesty hop complemented by mellow oak Finish: Rounded and satisfying, biscuit malt giving way to orange marmalade

(330ml bottle) Obtained via trade with Lubiere in 2006. Pours a thin, white dissipating head with a deep brownish-orange body. Nose of whiskey and red wine. Flavour is awfully sweet and grossly whiskey. Pretty bad... another reason I don’t like barrel-aged beers.

A dark mahogany amber ale with a thin dissipating white head. Aroma is pleasantly woody, light olives , a bit of burned sugar, and rather musky. In mouth, I tend to agree with Todd. Lots of residual sugars which do not meld with the oaky notes, a lot of sweetness in final, a bit thin. Overall, disappointing. Bought at the LCBO late 2006.

(Correction - 11/18/2006) Bottle, courtesy of Bradley, a darkish brown with ruby tints, a large foamy head the disippated fairly quickly. Aroma isn’t strong, but is definitely oaky - but sweetish, so like oak sap. Peaty whiskey flavours come through in a relatively light palate, rich and warming all the way through with a little bit of chocolate in a smooth finish. A good late night tipple.

My first beer rating. I have had this bottle in my cellar since ast December. Medium light brown head, lasts a long time as does the lacing. Heavy peat, molasses and perfume smell, right from opening the bottle. Medium body, medium carbonation with an astringent finish. Average lasting flavour of some port, wood, peat and scotch.

Bottle, shared by papsoe. Clear, copper beer with a beige head. Malty, slightly peaty nose with some alcohol and sugary sweetness. Malty, slightly sugary flavor with some peat and alcohol, and a vague sourness as well. Full body. I like it. It feels a bit ordinary despite it’s peatyness, and I am uncertain if it deserves my rating, but I guess it does. (071005)
