Thanks to Dave for the introduction to this very fine beer. Beautiful whiskey coloured crystal clear brew. Small dense head with a fair amount of carbonation and decent head retention. Very clean flavour with highlights of vanilla, caramel malts, woody oak, and just enough hops to balance the taste. The flavours really shine as this warms to 50 to 55 degrees F. Great choice to share with unsuspecting friends.

Honey, cream head of tiny bubbles. Sweet toffee and vanilla nose as well as some interesting but not surprising woody notes. Tastes quite sweet and doesn’t have complexity the nose suggests. No noticeable bitterness although I guess the hopping keeps the caramel/ bubblegum from getting completely out of hand. An unusual beer that reminds me of ordinary scotch and water.

The look of the bottle and appearance of the beer reminded me of scotch, so I was not disappointed when I discovered the beer was smooth and aromatic with notes of vanilla and toffee. Just enough hops to give it some kick but not too bitter. I hope to have this beer again, but in scotland.

Clear medium amber/copper body with a fair amount of carbonation and a wonderful creamy off-white head. Nice lacing and good head retention. The aroma has got some strong notes of vanilla, toffee and a good amount of oakiness. Loads of malts and not much in the way of hops. Some alcohol is also noticeable. The taste starts with a fairly sweet, vanilla and toffee (or butterscotch) maltness, with a nice oak character and a bit of alcohol. The finish is woody and a bit sweet and dry. After a while, the whisky flavours start to come out more and more and linger throughout the aftertaste as well. This beer is medium-bodied, with some crisp carbonation. All in all, Innis & Gunn is an oustanding beer, giving you quite a unique drinking experience. Highly recommended!

Amber/copper color with an off-white head. The oak aroma and flavor gives the sweet vanilla, butter, malt and caramel. A little strong on the aftertaste of the still lingering oak. Different. But different good or different bad.

This beer pours a nice maple brown colour with a small white head. The aroma is good with vanilla and toffee evident. The flavour is somewhat muted but there is hints of butterscotch, vanilla and a woody, whisky taste. Overall it is nothing special but it is unique.

16th August 2008. Clear pale brown beer. Sweet with lots of vanilla and a little oak. Just a touch of hops buried under the vanilla.
