Fresh, bitter with slightly smoked notes. Very light in body making this very easy to drink. Not a great beer, but quite sympathetic. Somehow the kid-brother to "Lia Fail". 010305 jimhilt (1674), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 10, 2005 Pours a one-finger white head that goes quickly leaving no lace. Clear amber color. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Slightly sweet malty nose. Starts sweetish, hops are there at finish but hardly over powering. $1.95 for a 330ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2005 This had a delicious ale aroma. Buttery, peaty, British hop aroma. Nice citrine gold with a good bottle and label. A bit briny and peaty, not too sweet, some wood, some diacetyl. Slight complaint on the mouthfeel - a bit watery. Finish has some pistachio and quits quickly Bittering is toasty and not aggressive. Sammy (3981), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 29, 2005 Bottled (thanks Viggo) Pour reveals a lightly hazed honey-gold ale with a smallish cap and light carbonation. The aroma of this ale is one of the best noses I’ve experienced in an ale: fruity, pears with musty citrus and a wisp of smoke. Medium body sweet malt and the teast-hop mix leave a lightly smoked pear cider taste...wet finish...mild and mellow but tastey...a very nice scottish ale. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2005 Pours a watery head with large bubbles and similar lacing. Aroma is quite malty but also includes some smoky orange elements. Complex heather and pine notes to the flavor, and just the right touch of roasted peat to distinguish this as a classy Scottish brew. The finish loses the complex elements and is fundamental pleasant hops-bitter with a grainy tint. Somewhat thin and runny body but has enough carbonation. Rather pricy but I would highly recommend for special occasions. Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark
