pickled (46), New Zealand Aug 8, 2008 Yum Yum, this is a fruity wheatbeer (not a lambic). and since I like berry flavours I was an easy win for this beer. I got a 660 ml bottle from regional wines for about $7. Not much head but it’s all about the berries. I hope it’s going to be available in summer because one or two of these would slip down very easily after mowing the lawn. Not sweet like so many other fruit beers. donfardz64 (75), Wellington, New Zealand Jul 27, 2008 On tap at the Malthouse about a month ago. Pours deep red with a fluffy pink head. Some light fruity vanilla an the nose. Bittersweet body, vanilla, boysenberry. Quite a bold body for a lambic, assisted greatly by the 6% alcohol. TheGrandMaster (1451), Auckland, New Zealand Jun 26, 2008 Draught at the Malthouse (in Wellington), cloudy deep red in the glass. A real boysenberry aroma. Early season raw boysenberry flavour with a refreshing tartness and a touch of spice. Smoothie-like (in a Frulli type of way), but still clearly a beer. yalnikim (647), Wellington, New Zealand Jun 6, 2008 Tasted 05/06/2008. Stemmed glass from tap at The Malthouse. Pours cherry red, tending oxblood, with an airy pinkish head that fades. Fresh boysenberry and weizen-style banana esters dominate the nose. Clean and spritzy in the mouth, with good length in the quite unique boysenberry flavour. A little tart cuts through the mellow sweetness. Drier than I expected (after having an advanced same just a few weeks back, which was less carbnated). Nice beer, and a challenging difference to what we see from other NZ breweries. I’d love to see it with a less fruity, possibly spicy yeast and a little more alcohol. Could be a stunner.
