WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 26, 2006 OK ... remember what this is ... a Pittsburgh Bud, even a Pittsbrugh Coors. As such, it’s not bad, and even in the 1970s my friends always preferred this to Coors in a blind taste test. A little thin in the mouth, not much malt, maybe some Bud-ish cost cutting corn. But at least it has some bitterness. I can drink this if I have to ... although the last one was almost 30 years ago, and the next one may be 30 years from now. MrBunn (1520), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 25, 2006 Updated: Aug 26, 2006So I forgot to put this in after the Superbowl, when we decided to drink a Pittsburgh beer to cheer on the Steelers. I will say that the evening was not highlighted by the beer, but that the team seemed to do something noteworthy every time one of these was opened. It kind of became a double-dog-dare-you type of eveing with these baddies, but the Steelers did pull it off... Couldn’t figure out how to put that in my ranking, so I didn’t. Basically a mediocre corn beer. Looks like a corn beer, smells like a corn beer, bubbles like a corn beer, tastes like a corn beer. There is a decidedly unpleasant aftertaste that really made it tough to love. A little bit of the skunky taste was present in each and every can. Not recommended... unless the Steelers make the Superbowl again and you think that your drink selection might have some influence on the outcome of the game. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Feb 24, 2006 Pours a light golden yellow. Aromas of minor hops, corn, grains. Flavor is light, crisp, watery with a little hop and not much else. rkn65 (106), st. clair shores, Michigan, USA Feb 22, 2006 Not a bad beer. Beats Bud and Coors with a nice flavor with some bitterness. Great for summer and watching the game with your pals. Mirage52 (123), New Market, Maryland, USA Feb 7, 2006 This must be Pittsburgh’s Natty Boh. I had this from a bottle in Deep Creek Lake, MD. Not bad, but nothing extraordinary. Scant flavors, nothing offensive and nothing rewarding. Very smooth and carbonated, and easily better than anything the big 3 puts out.
The high score comes from me expecting it to taste like garbage and being a Ravens fan, exepecting to hate anything made in Pittsburgh. I’ll drink it again when I’m in the area, hopefully while celebrating a Ravens victory at Heinz Field. bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 6, 2006 This beer was drank specificly for the super bowl. It was a very boring beer. Flavorless and simple. I won’t ever buy it again - for any reason pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Feb 6, 2006 355ml alum. bottle. Gold colour, poor head retention, a few tiny bubbles stuck to the edge of the glass then totally vanished. Aroma was corny, a little grain. Very light in the flavour dept, weak citrus note, thin malt and corn. Thin body, average carboantion. Corny grainy clinging aftertaste. Not sure why the LCBO bothered to get this one. loomis (43), Ohio, USA Feb 2, 2006 I think The BeerOrg said it best with " If I’m drinking PA swill, it’s at least going to be a Yuengling." Very True. Iron City for me is sort of like Blatz. Watery corn beer with a sour aftertaste and nothing positive other than the kitchiness of it all.
