Poured a disappointing pale color with weak head. Wet cardboard aroma. Sweet, cheap lager flavor. Flat texture. Boring. Pity. Bottle is the best part. blankboy (3201), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Aug 14, 2005 Aluminium bottle. Nice fancy bottle, the beer must be good...right? When I poured it in a glass and saw the flat clear pale yellow I knew not to expect much. There was a large fizzy white head but it quickly dissipated. So there it sits with no carbonation and no head -- it’s not very mouth watering. The aroma of grain, corn and yeast was sour or off and unpleasant. Well after all that I am not dying to taste it but here goes: First thing I notice is how watery it is. There’s barely any taste at all, like a glass of water with a bit of crappy generic macro beer mixed in. A completely useless beer. wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada

Appearance is very light yellow, clear with thin head. Weak aroma, slight corn smell, slightly sweet scent. Watery flavour, thin, weak and not very good. fatty (363), Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of light sweet corn. Light, thin sour hop flavor. Not bad, but doesn’t really offer much. GonZoBeeR (2160), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada

| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 7, 2005 bottle. cool aluminum bottle. golden straw body with a fizzy white head. lots of carbonation. corn aroma is prevalent and not entirely pleasing. flavour isn’t exactly offensive but one can’t really vouch for any distinguishing or interesting qualities. sweet malty flavour with bubbly carbonation. watery thin body. sub-par. pootzboy (1045), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 4, 2005 I hadn’t tried an "IC" since I used to make the Pirates games in the 70s ( mostly for the tail-gaters and bars). Iron City was everywhere in those days..hard to find a corner pub in the Penn state where either this or Rolling rock wasn’t on tap.
This new packaging may be an attempt to revive sales and position IC for national distribution. It is one of the better American Macros.
Poured a crystal clear gold with a smallish rocky cap that vanishes quickly to a small ring and light lace. Moderate carbonation is welcome in these macro pale adjunct lagers. Nose picks up a strong, grainy, boiled husk aroma and vegital adjuct smells with olfactions of dextrin sweetness. Mouth feel rather watery, distinct grainy husk/corn grit tastes ...sweet, mealy but thin on malt...light dry finish with the green, dry burn you get with rice in a beer. The hops are non distinct in the falvor profile until the finish where they appear as a light citrus note.
Good stuff to wash your teeth with watching a live sports event but you’d have to be a real tar to actually buy it to enjoy at a pub or at home.

Anyone else have a problem with "iron" city beer in an "aluminum" cottle/ban? Anyway, with a rough pour only managed a weak fizzy white head that disappeared before I put the opener down - I could smell the corn and skunk from almost 2 feet away (I have long arms). There’s grain, some stale hops, even sour fruit, but nothing I smell makes me want to drink. But it’s a rating ... tastes like overly sweet generic lager with no carbonation or real flavour. No linger, nothing. Not awful, but why not just drink tapwater?
