Commercial Description:
Brewed in the style of a Belgian monestary, it has a distinct aroma of plum and pears. The flavor has the sweetness of dark Belgian candy sugar paired with nuances of fruit and spice. A dense, rocky head sits atop this mahogany colored ale.

On tap in Phoenixville. Dark brown amber with faint white head. Aroma of cherries, and various dried fruit, raisins and some spice. Bitter at the front with a lot of sweetness in the middle with a smooth finish. Not as complex as others but enjoyable.

Draught at Phoenixville: Aroma of spices, yeast, cloves, slight bubblegum, and pepper. Poured copper/deep amber in color with a medium-sized, creamy, off-white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Tiny lacing. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of spices, yeast, bubblegum, chocolate malts, cloves, light tobacco, and light caramel. Medium body. Slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Spiced, sweet, finish.

Draught at the West Chester location. Stale tire air to start, with some very light fruit. Appearance much like the ESB, generically "dark." Sweet taste, some dark chocolate and gritty grain (or grainy grit), smooth faint roast with some lovely wood. Very dry. Decent for style, a nice dry example. Taste is much better and stronger than the scent leads to believe, though ultimately a little bland for style. I wonder if the bottle conditioned 750 would develop a significantly better character.

Lightly hazy, medium cherry brown, light thin head. Slightly smoky dubbel aroma. Herbal, bitter, medium-light sweetness. Light candi sugar. Medium body, lively CO2. Tacky mouth, long bitter finish.

Deep mahogony color. Aroma of banana and spice. Taste is banana and spice. Seemed to lack authenticity.

On tap in Phoenixville. Seems a little too sweet. Overall pretty well balanced, lots of candy sugar, a little banana and spice. Finishes very well.

25.3 oz bottle from the Media, PA location. Pours a hazy coppery-reddish color with a one finger heas that settles into a thick collar & sticks to the glass. Aroma is of sweet fruity red wine. At first sip, the flavor matches the aroma exactly. There’s an initial sweetness followed by a dry tartness. If I didn’t know better, i’d swear this was a glass of red wine and not beer! As the beer warms, the sweetness seems to fade and a dry spicyness becomes apparent. Mouthfeel is medium fullness with some sparlke from the carbonation. Overall, this is one damned fine brew IMHO!
