Commercial Description:
Brewed in the style of a Belgian monestary, it has a distinct aroma of plum and pears. The flavor has the sweetness of dark Belgian candy sugar paired with nuances of fruit and spice. A dense, rocky head sits atop this mahogany colored ale.

Tap at Wilmington. Hazy orange color. Tastes of yeast, brown sugar and an array of fruit; candied oranges and cherries. Medium to heavy bodied. Tangy finish. A very good dubbel.

Blind tasting at Papsoe. Clear brown colour with a little head. Aroma of oak, wine-like, grapes and sweet maltness. Sweet smooth flavour with notes of malt, alcohol and very little chocolate and caramel.

On draft at North Wales. Pours a dark mahogany with a medium white/beige head. Weak aroma of banana and clove. Taste is much the same- watery banana and clove. Nothing special.

Draft in Lancaster Iron Hill. Small off white head, good lacing in glass goblet. Muddy orange color. Faint aroma of spice, fruit which carries into the pallet. Actually tastes less potent than the first time I had it, almost a little watery. Good finish but as I said more mellow, refreshing.

My Bottom Line:
Chocolatey malts hug prune and cherry esters right before doughy yeast and a smidgen of black pepper envelop the finish. This is a nourishing and authentic example of the Abbey Dubbel style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the reddish brown.
-The Abbey Ale yeast is rather obvious and perfectly positioned in the flavor profile.
-This is another well-rounded Iron Hill ale.
-Carbonation is comfortable and correctly emulates the Belgian style.

On tap at the Wilmington brewpub.
