Nice and dark with excellent flavor in the true Belgium Abby dubbel style. Much lighter and less filling than the dark color would suggest. Very drinkable, My favorite brew from Iron Hill yet. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 11, 2007 Sampled on 7/15/06 at the RBSG ’06 Grand Tasting: Pours a clear dark copper bronze with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Has a rich, sweet, caramel malty complex bready and authentic Belgian yeasty aroma. Body starts with a pretty full sweet toasty and bready caramel flavor with good yeasty balance. Very authentic and enjoyable. CJfromPhilly (84), Aston, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 3, 2008 25.3 oz bottle from the Media, PA location. Pours a hazy coppery-reddish color with a one finger heas that settles into a thick collar & sticks to the glass. Aroma is of sweet fruity red wine. At first sip, the flavor matches the aroma exactly. There’s an initial sweetness followed by a dry tartness. If I didn’t know better, i’d swear this was a glass of red wine and not beer! As the beer warms, the sweetness seems to fade and a dry spicyness becomes apparent. Mouthfeel is medium fullness with some sparlke from the carbonation. Overall, this is one damned fine brew IMHO! eaglefan538 (2399), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2007 Updated: Nov 29, 2008On draft at the Newak location. Hazy amber, almost reddish pour, nice head on top, decent retention with steadily rising bubbles going on. Lacing pretty good. The aroma was very nice once it warmed up beyond the freezing cold serving temperature of the Newark location, coriander, cloves, sweet amber malts. The flavor was solid, great spicing (cloves and coriander), solid yeast presence in the flavor and finish, caramel and fruity malt aspects, highly drinkable, up there among my favorite dubbels experienced to-date. Body was airy fully, nothing sticky or thick about it, though. Nice job, Scott! Re-rate, 11/08, on draft at the WC location: A tad more smokey than remembered, bubblegum noticeable underneath. Not quite as impressive either as my first rating of 4.4, bumping numbers down a tad. MrBendo (1044), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Draught in North Wales. Clear copper body with a small, frothy, off-white head. Nose has pleasant floral and banana esters with some caramelization, suggestions of sweet yams, and a gentle note of smoke. Medium sweet flavor of caramel, a touch of light roast, bubble gum, and woody hop flavor and bitterness. Somewhat sticky palate. A tasty, stylish American dubbel.
