Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of an English bitter, you're hit with a wonderful malt flavor and distinct hop character from a generous amount of Kent Goldings.

Draft at Maple Shade. And now ladies and gentlemen we bring you to the let down of the day.......Poured a good looking orangey amber body sitting underneath a medium sized frothy off white head. The aroma was barely detectable with just a slight touch of earthiness and not much else going on. The flavor was all earth and by earth that is a nice way of saying it tasted like dirt. Once again this one was a let down.

On tap at Iron Hill in Media, PA (05/26/09). Amber in color with a decent sized off-white head. Aroma is of hops, vegetables and easrth. Taste is of hops, earth, wet leaves, soil, and compost with a little cirus. Not a big fan.

Tap at the brewery. Body-dark straw, lots of CO2 bubbles sticking to the sides, very thick ring of bubbles, medium head. Nose-malty, light rotten fruit, cherries, very malty with a little bit of stale hops. Taste-light Alka-Seltzer, medium bitter, low to medium dry, simple, high CO2. A Basic English Ale with the usual malt backbone.

On tap at brewpub in Newark and Wilmington. Poured a golden amber color with a thinning white head. Some buttery notes in the aroma. This is a fruity and flavorful ale. A decent malt body with a hop bite. Buttery sweetness with a hint of citrus fruits. Bitter and oily in the finish. Not bad. I enjoyed this beer.

Draft at Iron Hill, Lancaster...pours iced-tea in color, small off-white head...aroma was kind of light, some sweet fruit, malts, mild hops...flavor was much of the same but also had a trace of banana/clove...seems to be a common thing with Iron Hill...I tend to prefer their beers without it.

On tap at the Lancaster brewery. Pours amber into the glass, with a small suds cap that leaves soapy lace. The nose has some herbal, citrus and malts intermixing. Soft malts upfront, with a slightly metallic mid-palate. A definitive ESB light close on the bitter finish. Things come together well, but it was a bit reminiscent of the Vienna Red style offering from the same sampler. This brew did have a malty sweetness that was picked out all the way through the pull. Medium mouthfeel with ok integration of character.
