Pours a hazy ruby almost violet color and a foamy fading head. Aroma is carrots, herbs, vegetal, black currants, very tart but also some weird tomato character. More vegetal tomato, acetobacter is apparent- sharp and spritzy, farmhouse funk- tart currant fruit and a weird herbal finish along with more tartness and sourness. Strange lambic. Huge nose with sweet fruits and malt with some oak and earth. Flavor the same but a bit less complex and full and lively on the palate. JohnC (2279), Mission Viejo, California, USA

Usually I’m not a big fan of black currants, but this beer was really tasty. Great fruity flavor, it was a pleasant surprise LilBeerDoctor (1507), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 11, 2009 Bottle courtesy of my secret santa! Pours a deep, cloudy red with hardly any head. Aroma of wood, sweettart candies, and mustiness. Flavor is super tart and sour initially with a woodsy and fruity (black currents, berries) finish. Some earthy notes too. Puckeringly sour (not as sour as Cantillon though). Hard to drink a lot of this, but it is quite good.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2009 Bottle. Aroma has some crazy funky notes up front, pineapple, sour milk/cheese, and the black currant really picks up all of these notes, somehow creating a black currant-sour beet effect. From that point on for me, there was a distinct borscht feel to the beer. In the background was a good deal of acidity and sour black currant, but something went wrong here for my tongue. kkearn (1007), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 10, 2009 750mL bottle, from Iron Hill Wilmington. Pours a translucent plum color, capped with a small off white head. Black current is the primary aroma, with oak, hay, vanilla, blueberry, and some wild yeast. Flavor is oak, vanilla, currants, leather, and barnyard, and black cherry. Finish is fairly acidic, with black currant flavor lingering on the palate. Really nice lambic; this is my favorite of the bottled Iron Hill fruit lambics. pantanap (1357), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 15, 2008 Pour was burgundy to purpleish, some haze, thin head that is continually replenished with carbonation, thin though. The aroma was funky barnyard, citrus, currants. The flavor followed, very nice tart touches, highly drinkable and refreshing on this warmer winter night, while watching the Birdies whoop up - hopefully - on the Browns. Could have benefited from some strong malt flavors, but this thing was quite excellent and worth the wait. Actually with warmer temperatures this thing got bolder malty and then at the bottom of the bottle, tons of sedimentation filled out the mouthfeel - with plenty of tingly and stimulating carbonation. Original rating - not scored, read on - Bottle shared by GMCC2181, leaving me enough for a sampling in a recorked (for weeks) bottle. Surprisingly, this held out ok in storage after opening, slight notes of oxidation showing up but in a minor way under a beer that featured a lot more going on. Pour was violet in color, near nil head. The aroma was blackberries, blueberries, slight off funk. Flavor followed, not nearly as tart as I was expecting, somewhere between Lindemans and Cantillon in a pretty nice way. Mouthfeel was pretty full bodied for a lambic, definitely some depth there. Thanks, Gabe!
