Draft, followed up by a growler which I am now drinking. This one poured deep black with dark brown edges and a tan head. The aroma was intense, with big roasty malt and dark chocolate syrup. The palate is dense and complex, and the flavor is roasty malty, with some vinous fruit notes, backed up by a mid and end palate of dark choclate, hazelnuts, and slight anise. Very complex, and a marvelous companion to a maduro cigar. As the self-proclaimed king of Scwarzbiers on this site, I proclaim this one pathetically underrated.

Draught at Media. Dark violet hue with a grey-toned head. Aroma of espresso beans, chocolate, and roast. Medium sweet with light bitter roast. Flavor suggests well-roasted marshmallows. Medium body with some smooth slickness. A decent Schwarzbier.

Pitch dark color, poured with a small head, which yielded great lacing. The aroma was dead, nothing to be detected with my sniffer. In the flavor was some licorice, some chocolate malts, and a definite hop touch to the finish. This one was dry in the finish and had an acidic mouthfeel (just like the Munich Dunkel Lager I had the same day). I’d rather have many a stout over this one, but it wasn’t bad.

[At GABF 2004] A red-brown beer with a small light brown head. The aroma is of roasted malt and caramel, while the flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, which gives it a dry end, but the body is thin. An OK Schwarz bier.

Pours quite dark with little head. Aroma is malty and sweet, with a doughy, lightly bitter flavor. Finishes dry and tangy.

Really an outstanding beer. I was really impressed with all of the beers that Iron Hill brought. Smoky, burnt tasting, light, fresh & sweet. I couldn’t get enough of this stuff.

Dry, lager aroma. Dark brown color. Full, smokey taste. Not at all bitter. Nice roasted finish.

Toasty, coffeeish, and dry. Finishes slightly thin. Dark brown colour. Mediocre.
