hopdog (5534), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 26, 2008 Tasted from Growler courtesy of MrBendo. Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of spices (cinnamon and cloves), pumpkin, caramel, bananas, and vanilla. Tastes of the same spices, bananas, pumpkins, caramel, fruity, and candi sugar. Light alcohol in the finish but overall well hidden. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 14, 2009 Growler sampled on 10/25/08 thanks to MrBendo: Pours a hazy copper bronze with a thin, spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet toasty caramel toffee and pumpkin spice. Body starts with good fullness and light pumpkin flavor with lots of sweet caramel malt. Well balanced with good complexity. A nice pumpkin beer. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Oct 26, 2008 From a growler. Cluody dark orange and brown colored body. Fruity and sweet sweet blood oranges pulp and fresh squash. A bit of sugar sweetenes things up but seems to be mostly natural. Body is medium to full, and overall it’s peppery, spicy, and fruity. Good stuff. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 26, 2008 Poured a murky brown orange color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana nut bread, some clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin, caramel, and vanilla. Taste of more spices, cinnamon, light ginger, clove, banana, nuts, bread, caramel, brown sugar, pumpkin, and light alcohol in the finish as well. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 10, 2009 Thanks to MrBendo for the growler share at Kramer tasting. Pours a hazy deep amber with a thinning head. Aroma is instantly ginger snap cookies, with lots of cinnamon spices, clove and nutmeg seems on the low side for a pumpkin ale- ok sweet caramel as well. Toasted malts, caramel sharp crystal spice becomes well rounded in the flavor with more cinnamon and a less pronounced ginger character- all spice and clove in the end and an ok earthy piny bitterness. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 25, 2008 On tap at IHNW as part of their Pumpkin Celebration 2008. Pours a mostly hazy orange amber with a medium creamy/bubbly off white head that laced. Aroma of pumpkin pie spices...cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and all spice along with your Belgian yeast ester notes...banana, clove, pepper, apple. A bit bready, banana bread, walnuts and light pumpkin. Flavor has some more of the Belgian notes up front, peppery, spicy, banana, clove, pumpkin pie spices, candi sugar, nutty, , earthy, pumpkin. Pretty much what I expected, a Belgian strong ale with all it’s fruity/spicy ester notes complimented nicely by pumpkin pie spices. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Nov 21, 2008 Growler from pepsican. Thanks. Poured a hazy brown-orange color. the head was off white. Smelled of corn sweetner, wet dog, cereal grain, and a bit of spice. Medium bodied with alcohol warmth. I tasted clove, banana, cinnamon, and raw alcohol. Imagine a pumpkin infused vodka with too much added spice. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 20, 2008 Draft at Elysian Great Pumpkin Beer Fest (GPBF) 08. Very nearly the beer of the day. Dark amber under a light tan head. Big sweet strawberry and pumpkin flesh nose. Creamy medium body. Pumpkin, biscuit, light caramel, very subtle funk, and a hard to place dark note, maybe anise, all on the mid-palate. Delightfully, intriguingly complex. Long nutty pumpkin finish. Absolute triumph.
