Commercial Description:
For this special beer we took our Pig Iron Porter recipe and jacked it up to 9%ABV, and then we took 35 pounds of Nicaraguan coffee beans and cold steeped them for 3 days, and infused the beer with the resulting extract. A massive, dark beer with lots of dark roasted grain and coffee flavors.

Draft at the Lancaster location...nice deep black pour, tan head...full malty coffee aroma...rich flavor was semi-sweet chocolate, espresso, vanilla and alcohol...smooth mouthfeel...I’m wondering if Runandrow had an off-batch...definitely a sipper...heck of a robust Porter.

Bottle picked up at IH Newark, drank at home. Poured into a snifter, dark black in color, decent head. Nice aroma of coffee and some chocolate. Taste is nice.... Lots of coffee, chocolate, bitter after taste. Nice porter to sip on. Smooth texture easy to drink. Overall a very nice beer, just hate the price tag

750ml Bottle: Aroma of bitter coffee, slight cream, roasted malt, light chocolate, and a hint of caramel. Poured very dark brown/black in color with a large, creamy, brown head that diminished quickly but lasted throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of bitter coffee, slight chocolate, and light roasted malt. Medium body. Thin, then dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Bitter coffee, slight chocolate, and light roasted malt finish is lightly dry. 9%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

On cask at the Iron Hill Newark "Cask & Ye Shall Receive"-Black, cola like pour w/a slight off white head. Coffee aroma. Strong coffee flavor w/traces of chocolate, molassis, & woodsy overtones, probably a result of the cask style. Coffee is just overpowering in this one, don’t drink if you;re not a coffee drinker; fortunately, I am! Good after dinner brew, would be great w/a sweet desert, nice bitterness to balance it out. Strong, full, bitter coffee finish.

On cask at the Iron Hill "Cask & Ye Shall Receive" fest. Man, this was one of the best ones I had, and it’s up there with the best of the dark imperial coffees around - think Peche Mortel-like. The pour was deep dark brown-black, decent little head, the aroma was oodles of coffee, roast, and coffee. The flavor was big coffee, including a malty sweetness and a light roasty bitterness. Nuances of nuts, roast, vanilla underneath, but again, think coffee: no idea how other previous raters below thought it was underplayed? This thing kicked the butt of Southern Tier’s Jahva, and this was right there with DdC. Great job, IH Lancaster again. Body was big, oily to creamy, somewhat like a Hershey’s choco-syrup.

Cask at IH Lancaster. Dark body with a thin tan, creamy head. Fresh coffee aroma, flavor is filled with real coffee with a creamy head that adds to the smoothness, nice balance... slight bitter coffee bean aftertaste

Cask Stillage from the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 25/09/2009 Coffee roast aroma. Black and smooth on the palate with a roast malt flavour. A little bitterness in a crisp finish.

Brewed in the USA... On tap at the Lancaster site. Pours a deep dark brown color with a small beige head. Aroma of coffee, dark malts, sweet chocolate and vanilla. Taste of bitter coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and grains. Mouthfeel is dry, kind of thin with a lingering bitter bite at the finish. Not bad !!
