Commercial Description:
An American rendition of the English IPA. This beer begins with subtle malty sweetness followed by intense bitterness. These flavors give way to the pungent aroma of Classic American hops. A hop-centric beer.

On tap. Medium copper in color with a very small off white head. Light hoppy aroma with malts. Sweet tasting with a very light bitter finish. Neither balanced nor bitter enough. This version of an IPA did nothing for me and I would pass on it in the future. Rated on 7/13/04 5 4 4 4 11

Rerate. Tried again on 2/12/06 and billed as their ’Hopzilla’. Aromas of citrus, floral and light caramel. Tastes follow with a grapefruit bitter finish. Increased the #s.

Pours hazy deep copper with ruby menisci and off-white head. Aroma of hops, caramel malt, iced tea. Tastes British aley, with a subdued hop finish, and some caramel malt and a dry finish, with some definite tannins. Smooth finish.

A very good, although not elite, IPA. I’m partial to IPAs, and this one did most things right. Very quaffable.

[Cask] Poured a hazy amber color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, light pine, grass, caramel malts, and toffee. Taste of citrus fruits, light pine, resin, caramel malts, and a lightly bitter finish.

On tap at the North Wales location on cask. Pours a lightly hazy golden orange with a medium bubbly off white head that left some lacing. Aroma of citrus, floral and some caramel malt. Flavors of the same orage and light pine. Caramel malt and a lingering hop bitterness. Paired nicely with the spicy steak fajita wrap I had for dinner.

Poured an amber orange color with an initial head that was average, but which turned quickly to NOTHING. Hoppy aroma, not much else was detectable. Hops (more floral than piney) were present in the flavor, beginning through to the end. Malty background (light), with some bready / musty touches to the finish. Just another average IPA in my book. Re-rate, 1/08, draft at Newark location: Some saaz hops, some citrus, strong bitter noble hops with some toffee in there. Strong traditional IPA appearance. An ok IPA, nothing to write home about though. Re-rate, On cask at the Iron Hill "Cask & Ye Shall Receive" fest, 12/09, as "English IPA," and not impressive, slightly on the sweet side of an IPA. Descriptors more like my original rating on this one, numbers stay the same.

North Wales location. Clear orange-copper body with an off-white head and filmy lacing. Aroma is toasty with prominent buttery diacetyl. Hop aroma seems weaker than in the Ironbound Ale. Fruity flavor like sweet berries and a touch of caramel malt. Fairly sweet initially but medium-high, coarse bitterness finishes it dry. A fairly basic IPA. Needs more aroma hops.

Amber, creamy white head. Good hoppy nose of pine, citrus, florals, and touches of caramel. Well bittered flavors throughout of earthy citrus. One sided hops all the way. Medium bodied, light carbonation, bitter finish. Solid IPA...
