On "draft" at the Long’s Park Art & Craft Festival, Lancaster, PA...pours amber in color, white foamy head...smell was citrusy with a bit of malt...taste was that of hops, sweet malt, citrus, and just a bit of bitterness...unfortunately it was in a plastic cup, it being an outdoor event, but it was a very enjoyable ale...I’ve been looking forward for Iron Hill to open here in Lancaster so I can enjoy their selections on draft, and in a glass! ;o) Won’t be too much longer...

clear dark copper, fine off white head, drippy lace, sweet caramel malt aroma with citrus hops, lots of citrus hop flavor, light bitterness is present from the start through a long bitter finish but complements rather than distracts from the hop flavor, caramel sweetness makes for a three way balance,

Pretty copper color with lemon/citrus hop flavor and aroma. Bitter citrus hop finish. Nice lacing and nice smooth body. Better then I’d thought it would be.

May 2005 - Had this from a sampler at the Newark Iron Hill. Nice beautiful golden color with hoppy smell. Nice balance between citrusy flavors and bitter hops. I don’t really like hoppy beers, and this one just isn’t really my style, but this one isn’t bad. I prefer the British pales, which don’t seem as hop heavy.

On tap @ Newark-pours a clear copper color w/a moderate off white head. Kind of a standard pale ale, strong hop flavor w/a metalic tint to it. Had a decent malt finish. There was nothing to make this one stand out. This isn’t my favorite style anyway & too many of these seem to taste alike to me.

On draft at Iron Hill West Chester. Poured clear auburn with foamy white head that left terrific lacing. Fruity, floral aroma. Good balance between hops and malts. Fruity hop flavor with nice bitter finish.

(On tap in Newark & Lancaster) This was a good, but not excellent American pale ale. It was not particularly bitter, but the quality of the hops was good and the flavor was both fairly complex and balanced. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking it. There was nothing particularly interesting about it, however...it did not distinguish itself from other good American pale ales in any way. It’s my favorite of the "mainstay" brews of Iron Hill, but in my opinion, this doesn’t say much because I still consider Iron Hill to be somewhat sub-par overall as a brewery.

The ironbound was pretty good. Nice amber colour, bit sweet aroma, flavour has citrus elements to it that are blended in well with the body. good drinking beer.
