Taste is malty with some fruit and chocolate - very complicated with a nice light hop finish. It has a nice carbonation and was smooth and creamy. A very nice beer! bubbleflubber (893), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2008 Updated: Jul 17, 2008On tap at the Lancaster brewery. Pours the deepest brown, with a thinning tan head. Roasted chocolates and figs to the nose. Nicely roasted grains and dark chocolates hit the tongue just right. The finish brings out the roasted bitters, and maybe a hint of wet tobacco. An oily mouthfeel closes out the brew, leaving a nice woven tapestry of complexion, and an extremely good take on the style.
(Also had a 2nd version, nitro... and a 3rd version, cask, which were consistently drier than the CO2 version, and leaving a MUCH creamier mouthfeel.) soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 15, 2008 Tap in Media: black color with tan head. Smooth taste with coffee, toffee, liquorice and chocolate notes, but a nice non-overly sweet flavor. Bitterness is there, but I thought it could use a more malty backbone for just a little more flavor. TheCaptain (555), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
