Medium brown in color with medium coffee roasted malt profile. Some dark chololate notes. Better as it warms. Goodgrief (1161), Middletown, Delaware, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 6, 2007 I’m a big porter guy. This is a good beer. I’d definitely buy it again if I’m in Iron Hill...but it’s really not outstanding. I like a Porter to have a little more to it than just a chocolatey/coffee/roasted malt flavor. Throw something else in to make it interesting. This didn’t have any of that. Good, but nothing to make it stand out above dozens of other "good" porters. ¾ (5011), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 25, 2007 Draft at North Wales. Creamy tan colored head on a dark brown and purple tinted body. Rich and toasty, medium-to-heavy roast, with some moderately thick sweet molasses qualities. Nose and flavor nearly identical. Quite robust and surprising, overall probably the best beer sampled at Iron Hill North Wales. Finishes even better, with some smoked berries and char flavors, but maybe it’s a little sweet, but nothing that takes away from the overall enjoyment. I find myself really enjoying well-made porters these days, maybe because of the warmer summer weather, but a well-made porter right now hits the spot better than any high gravity smoke bomb. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 16, 2007 Iron Hill Newark-Had 2 versions on tap, Draft & Cask.
Draft Version-Nice dark black color w/a moderate tan head. Some traces of coffee/chocolate & roasted malt. Nice mouthfeel, flavor was kind of weak. Dry finish.
Cask Version-Wasn’t too crazy @ this one, first cask brew I’ve had. Had a somewhat more pronounced oak flavor than the Draft version, but the temperature of the beer just put me off & I couldn’t get past that. I just like my beer cold I guess!
Rating is for Draft version. Nejhleader (931), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA
