Very dark brown almost black with a frothy tan head. Aromas of good roasted malts, slight chocolate, and a little coffee. Flavor is good sweet milk chocolate in the fore but then lots of roasted qualities take over roasted and almost burnt malts with some slight coffee before a fairly bitter and dry finish.. Good medium body with fair carbonation and a soft mouthfeel which was just a tad to the watery side.. Pretty solid beer overall though.. Liked this one.. Beerdedone (1885), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 19, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a soapy off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Tastes of roasted malts with coffee and chocolate on the aftertaste. A bit too carbonated for a porter, but a fine beer nonetheless. kmweaver (2474), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a dark brown center; light tan head with good retention and lacing. Roasted malts and milk chocolate in the aroma. Medium mouthfeel: roasted malts are most prevalent, followed by bitter dark chocolate and cocoa. Medium cocoa finish. An unremarkable but tasty porter. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 29, 2006 Tap at Iron Hill Newark, 9-15-06. Cask version, lucky timing. I tried this beer first, this one is the reason I came, and I was not dissapointed. Pour is near opaque dark brown with crimson highlights, low carbonation, but hey, it’s on cask. Served at a perfect temperature, thrilling because it’s so rare, so I dove right in. Aroma is very roasty malts, mild coffee, anise, almonds and dark fruit just poking through. Medium to full bodied, velvety texture. Flavor is coffee, chocolates, prunes, very subtle hoppiness, more anise and dark fruit, like Wisconsin cherries. Finish is medium in length, very smooth and pretty dry in the end, lingering roastiness is on my tongue until I try my next beer at this fantastic brewpub. Excellent porter, one of my faves this year. Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Can you say roasted? Wow, this was full of that, I couldn’t even drink it all it was so dark! I think this would have been better before I ate then after. BillKismet (1949), Seattle, Washington, USA

Warm, deep roast aroma moving into a strong coffee roast flavor with very deep notes and a dry, roasted finish with some grainy notes. An enjoyable winter beer with great depths of roast complexity.
