| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Cask version - Black, thin tan creamy head. Nose had very nice rich tones of caramel cream, soft roasted coffee, cocoa, and black currant. Flavor is similar with lots of cocoa, caramel and light coffee notes shining throughout. Medium bodied, soft smooth carbonation, roasty finish. Best everyday beer from them in my book. A well done porter without a doubt... jonjon (22), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

This beer is dark like mud. Cream colored head, minimal retention, not too much lacing.
Coffee and chocolate notes on the aroma and flavor. A little bitter for my taste.
Mouthfeel was too thin, and you could certainly taste the alcohol. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Sep 7, 2006 Good beer not amazing. Poured dark brown with tan head. Basic aroma chocolate and roast. Flavor was much the same. Just an average porter though. Need a little something special in there. jason (1624), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

Very nice smell with a roasted presence. Very full bodied and well balanced. Nice as dessert. Good porter. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 4, 2006 Updated: Sep 11, 2006*Damn hidebound authoritarians. OK, well I’m adding this for the regular pig iron porter. Aroma has more raspberry, less fruit cornucopia, and less presence. Lighter on the chocolate, stronger on the coffee than the cask version. Appearance is the same. Flavor is per aroma, almost berry dominated, with a coffee finish. smooth and flavorful. nice.
*Served hand pumped and room temp from the cask, real ale, I gave it the following rating: 4.4 (10, 4, 9, 5, 16). Splendid, delightful arom of raisins, grapes, dark chocolate, figs, nuts, a fruit cornucopia. Reddish deep brown beer with faint tan head. Chocolate coffee and all those fruits, plus a hint of cherry and tobacco. Extreme smoothness with a nice lasting roast finish. Completely solid and enjoyable beer, one of the best I had here and really raised my opinion of this place from what I’d been led to believe. I had the regular tap pig iron porter right next to this, and there is no comparing them. The cask is far superior and had all sorts of flavors and palate qualities totally missing in the regular porter. It is without a doubt in my mind a far different nd far superior beer this way. The special people in charge here moved this into the same beer. It is not the same beer and I don’t see how other cask beers get separate ratings if one that tastes this different does not.
