Bumped the aroma, mouthfeel and overall each up one. Cherries disappeared on cask. Pours a dark brown color, short of black, though. Nice medium body that isn’t too thick. Head is tan and substantial and the lacing outstanding. Flavor is initially coffee, followed by some cherries and a smooth burnt and dry after taste. Not a bad beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 27, 2006 Draught sample, Wilmington DE location. Near-opaque dark brown (not really close to black) with a bit of lacing and a tol’ble little tan head, well retained....gorgeous, immense roasty nose with plenty of black malt, chocolate, licorice and faint hints of grape skins, an absolute pleasure to keep working on, and noting cherries and dry almonds as it warms...the mouthfeel and flavor don’t quite hold up, but there are pleasures in the robust, dry, toasty tastes, with burnt caramel and some ashy tobacco character, and cherry pits....a bit on the thin side for a porter, but not ruinously so....easily the best of the samples I had, very well done. mhoster56 (34), Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Tap. One of the best porters I have ever consumed. Pours nearly as dark as many lighter stouts, and maintains a thin tan head for mere moments after tapping. Flavors of dark roasted coffee, malt, and vanilla are present. The beer’s aftertaste can be slightly bitter after the first few sips; however, that subsides rather rapidly after half of a glass. With this porter’s modest alcohol content, one can consume three or four of these in an evening without becoming overwhelmed. illinismitty (1797), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2006 Draft at West Chester. Pours dark brown/ black. Faint aroma of dark roasted malt and vanilla. Initial flavor of very dark, burnt roasted malt, that transitions to a nutty sweetness. Finish has a spicy hop finsih, a little overdone in my opinion. A little too heavy on the burnt malt flavor, but one of the better beers I had the night I was there
