JoeMcPhee (3628), Jackson Heights, New York, USA May 14, 2008 Deep dark brown beer. Aroma is quite nice and chocolatey. Coffeeish and chocolatey with a rich roasty character. A bit of chicory and toasted malt character. It is really toasty, earthy, and delicious. Rich palate, lovely porter.
doogie (24), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2008 Draft in Lancaster: Pours a dark, opaque brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt. Taste is malty with some fruit and chocolate - very complicated with a nice light hop finish. It has a nice carbonation and was smooth and creamy. A very nice beer! bubbleflubber (636), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Jul 16, 2008 Updated: Jul 17, 2008On tap at the Lancaster brewery. Pours the deepest brown, with a thinning tan head. Roasted chocolates and figs to the nose. Nicely roasted grains and dark chocolates hit the tongue just right. The finish brings out the roasted bitters, and maybe a hint of wet tobacco. An oily mouthfeel closes out the brew, leaving a nice woven tapestry of complexion, and an extremely good take on the style.
(Also had a 2nd version, nitro... and a 3rd version, cask, which were consistently drier than the CO2 version, and leaving a MUCH creamier mouthfeel.) soyorganic (94), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 15, 2008 Tap in Media: black color with tan head. Smooth taste with coffee, toffee, liquorice and chocolate notes, but a nice non-overly sweet flavor. Bitterness is there, but I thought it could use a more malty backbone for just a little more flavor. The_Captain (234), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 13, 2008 On tap in Iron Hill Lancaster. Very dark brown with a small simmering tan head, some lacing. Some roasted chocolate on the nose into a malty pallet, roast in the body. Bit of dry hop bitterness in the end. Even keel porter nice drinker.
