TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 30, 2009 25.3 oz bottle, cellared about two years. Clear mahogany with beige foam around the edges. Nose is caramel, brown bread and fig. Rich and creamy with soft carb and a light alcohol bite. Taste is raisin, sherry, caramel and dates. Quite sweet. Finishes with maple and brown sugar. Among the best domestic quads i’ve tried. Aging beautifully; wish i had waited a few more years. Beerapprentice (111), Hopatcong, New Jersey, USA Jul 15, 2009 Pours a cloudy, dark amber colour. Aroma of malts, candied sugar, dark fruits and alcohol. Flavourful fruity, and yeasty taste. Taste is much the same as the aroma. Warm alcohol finish. beerbill (1917), Laurel, New York, USA Jun 23, 2009 On tap at the Lancaster, PA location. Arrived at the table a deep but clear auburn with a moderate linen white head. Pleasant aroma of malt, brown sugar, and plums. The flavor is molasses, rich malt, and plums. Mild bitterness at the finish. Sweet, rich and medium-full bodied. Very tasty. Bottle: The aroma consists of strong plum, dark fruits, banana, cherry, and faint alcohol. It pours a slightly hazy reddish-brown with a small off-white head that fades to a ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor is very sweet and starts with lots of plum and candi sugar. The finish has some faint grape and mild alcohol. Light-medium bodied (seems a little thin for a quad) with minimal carbonation. michael-pollack (2601), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA May 8, 2009 Draught at Phoenixville (at 14.5+%ABV): Aroma of yeast, spices, and raisins. Poured brown in color with a medium-sized, creamy, tan head that lasted around the edges. Cloudy. Not sparkling. Flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of yeast, malts, candi sugar, vanilla, light cloves, light chocolate, caramel, toffee, light wood, and butterscotch. Medium body. Slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Sweet yeast and vanilla finish. 14.5+%ABV is undetectable. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 28, 2009 Draft at Lancaster. Pours a hazy dark amber/brown with an off white dissipating head. Very nice aroma of sweet malts and alcohol soaked dark fruits. Medium bodied. Initial flavor of raisin and dark sugary malts that transitions to yeast and alcohol. Boozy finish with some odd musty and cobwebby flavors, along with the typical belgian quad phenols. Ok, but this lacks the cohesiveness and nuances of the better Belgian quads. KornDogg (168), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 12, 2009 Updated: Apr 24, 2009Lancaster location... amazing strong warming power.. sweet candied flavor... you can def taste the alcohol but it’s very smooth... easy to drink too much... hits ya hard obxdude10 (1546), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 21, 2009 It’s scary to even think about this, but I think this Quad stacks up with the likes of Rochefort and Westy. This is just as complex, just a flavorful and just as enjoyable as the best. This quad pours a light brown color with a slightly reddish hue. There wasn’t much of a head, but of what there was, it was a dark tan color and left a small trace of lacing around the glass. The nose was full of yeast, sugar, dried fruit and a hint of alcohol. The body was very complex with mostly sweet flavors, like candy sugar, dates and a little caramel. Other flavors included a little earth, bread and light hops. The finish was sweet with a definite tone of alcohol, but mixed with more flavors of brown sugar and toffee. I definitely think this stacks right up there with the best quads out there. And with Westy being a little hard to find and this being so close, this is gonna turn into my quad-to-go-to. Very outstanding!
