DuffMan (2101), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Nov 18, 2008 GABF 2008. Listed as the "Gold Medal Winner". Really? This beer had a decent look (copper amber), but an aroma of cornbread, and a thin bready palate with a sweet watery finish. I’m really surprised that this won a medal! jehoey (732), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 12, 2008 Aroma was malts with many melanoidins leading to a little bit of a caramel, toasted bred in the flavor. hops balance nicely. Seemed slightly roasty. medium bodied. an alright beer. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Sep 10, 2008 08-Sep-08 (12-oz bottle with a competition label only: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA) The dry and moderately toasty entry is joined by a slightly sweet caramel flavor in the evolution, but a touch of corn in the finish is a bit disappointing. Hops emerge toward the finish to add nice balance to the toasty malts, offering a pleasant noble flavor, dry dustiness, and modest bitterness. The nose is also reasonably toasty, but the aroma of corn is more prominent and there’s a moderate cheesiness as well; it definitely tastes better than it smells. Medium in body with soft but ample carbonation. The coppery amber body is rather hazy, and the small, off-white head retreats to a thin ring within a few minutes, leaving no lacing on the glass. Overall, this ends up being a fine and inoffensive beer in terms of flavor, but the nose is somewhat off-putting. cazort (376), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2008 (On tap in Lancaster) Not very hoppy, not very flavorful or aromatic overall. I guess you could say this beer is very subdued, if you want to cast it in a positive light, although Id stop short of calling it subtle. Malt is perhaps remotely interesting. At least it is not too heavy or too sweet. I dont think this beer fits it listed style as a "Vienna" at all either. can8ianben (660), Pasadena, California, USA Aug 17, 2008 Sweet malty aroma of baking bread. Tastes bitter, but not in a pleasant hippy way. Red in color with a thin head like all of their beer.
