This is a strange one, and I’d bet it’s going to be really divisive.
On tap @ Ale House:
Deep, dark amber - solid 1/2 inch head. Taste is unbelievably smooth and extraordinarily sweet. Not a ton of body underneath the sweetness... hints of cola at the margins.
Bottle, from Gravity:
Pours deep amber, decent head. Here, the sweetness isn’t quite as pronounced, and the malt character that gives rise to the sweetness is more distinguishable. Ridiculously smooth, and if I didn’t read here that the ABV was 7.8%, I’d have bet good money it was under 5%. Cola, coffee and malt mix well, giving it a nice palate.
The key to this is that it’s NOT a stout; if you go in looking for a craft brewed stout, you may be disappointed. I don’t know what Iron Horse would say to this, but this is more akin to something between a brown ale and Port’s ’Midnight Sessions’ dark lager.

Nov 28, 2009 This beer has a sweet malty aroma. The flavor is sweeter than a typical stout. Drinkable.

Oct 31, 2009 Bomber. Smells like marshmallows. Perfect looking beer; nice head, perfect lacing, dark brown hue. Tastes malty, roasted, pretty good. Definitely not excellent.

Oct 31, 2009 22 oz. bottle- Pours deep black with a nice head, aroma is of malt and alcohol. Flavor is the same, only smooth. Very drinkable, but very moderate.

Oct 18, 2009 Very dark brown pour with some sediment. Aroma is roast, vegetal, and metallic with very subtle chocolate. The flavor adds some dark fruit and a little coffee on the finish. Medium, creamy body with moderate carbonation.

Oct 5, 2009 Pours a dark brown with a nice cream colored head. Lots of hot chocolate aroma with some coffee and molasses. Flavor has some lacto sweetness, molasses, chocolate and espresso notes. I agree that it has a charred flavor too...interesting.

Sep 3, 2009 Bottle. Dense brown color with a thick and creamy latte colored head. First whiff of the nose is mocha - coffee, chocolate,mild - with some metallic and sulfuric medicinal notes... no doubt showing signs of oxidation and a slight infection (bottle is roughly 9 months old, unintentionally aged). Some fig, barkdust and cumin spices show up as it opens up, not sure if that’s something in the beer or due to tainting or a combination of both. Body is surprisingly rich and creamy with a chewy and savory texture, turning slightly lactic/acidic in the finish (again part of the tainting but not overwhelming). Hop presense is low, in fact most of the bitterness seems to come from a small amount of astringent roast. Overall quite good, I imagine fresh it could be really impressive but I’m going off of what I have in the bottle that seems to have held up better than I expected.

Aug 20, 2009 8/19/09 from 22oz bottle. Aroma is hearty and sweet, dominated by dark dried fruit and molasses. Appearance is dark borwn with a medium maintaned cream colored head. Flavor is a very rich combination of blackberries, more molasses, light grill-like char and an earthy low noble bittering that blends with the roast. It’s full bodied, but never takes on the syrupy character of an old ale, keeping at the point where more than one pint isn’t out of the question. Overall, a great brew that shows off what rich malt can do in the right hands without having to go "over the top" and taking 45 minutes to drink.
