On tap at Toronado. This is an extremely cloudy reddish brown ale with an attractive butterscotch head. There is a toffee flavor with a little oak. Very thick and tasty with a chalk dry finish.

Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival. This 2007 vintage pours perfect clear amber with thin tan head. It has an inviting aroma with a mix of caramel, molasses, figs, cherries, roasted malts and a bit of alcohol heat. The taste has a very nice mix of molasses, caramel, toffee and roasty malts. By midway figs, cherries and raisins enter the fray creating a pleasing flavor sensation. It also seems a bit earthy from time to time with a sense of floral hops too. Interesting brew. I didn’t pick up any wood notes in the nose or flavor.

On tap @ Iron Springs 2007 vintage poured a clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, carmel, toffee, fig, dates and a hint of cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a lightly dry finish. Flavors of cocoa, oak, vanilla and light bourbon with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

Pours foggy deep ruddy brown with no head. The nose is nice and rich, with caramel, toffee and brown sugar. The flavo is a bit more subdued, nut still nice. There is an hop earthines toward back palate that dries it out a bit, but he mouthfeel overall is coating. A bit of heat lingering.

On tap at City Beer. Ruby brown color with little head. Aroma was mild and fairly limited. Mouthfeel was kinda thin and didn’t really stand out. Did not really notice the bourbon flavoring and overall seemed a weak barley wine.

Draft at Toronado. Darker ruby. Aroma is caramel, wood, earth, some sugar. Medium to full bodied, fairly sweet. Listed as "barley wine" this was the closest thing.
