ratman197 (2455), Arvada, Colorado, USA Sep 23, 2008 On tap @ Iron Springs poured a clear dark brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt and vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of coffee, bitter chocolate and vanilla with a smooth lingering malty finish. rayOfBeer (271), El Cerrito, California, USA Jul 26, 2008 Poured from tap at Barclays a brown-black with a small light-tan. Aroma is subtle with coffee, roast grain and a slight smokiness. The flavor is smoky roast grain, sweet malt, coffee, and a powdery charcoal bitterness. Palate is smooth sipping with a few harsh notes at the end, but good overall. I enjoyed it and would try it again. SDbruboy (1822), San Diego, California, USA May 20, 2008 On draft at Cato’s Alehouse in Oakland. Arrives mostly opaque, dark brown with mahogany hightlights when held to light, thin beige head with a bit of lace. Rich chocolatey and coffee aroma, roasty malts and herbal notes. Roasty malts, coffee and dandelion milk in the flavor, roast in the opening and floral notes prominent in the finish. Medium to fulll body, mostly still with a bit of gentle carbonation. Ibrew2or3 (1898), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2007 On tap at Lanesplitter in Berkeley, CA. It pours a deep dark amber with creamy mocha head. Excellent lacing. The aroma has a burnt malts to large scale burntness followed by roasted coffee beans. The taste ushers in burnt malts, mild roasted coffee beans and sweet malts mixed with a hint of molasses. Toward the finish I get mild chocolate malts. Pretty darn yummy. bb (2222), Martinez, California, USA Oct 5, 2006 Draft. Mahogony brown beer with an off-white head. Chocolate aroma with a bit of roast. Chocolate and roast flavor with coffee backing tones. Medium bodied. Coffee not overpowering.
