EFC1878 (109), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Sep 28, 2008 Bottled. Hazy/murky appearance due to its unfiltered nature. Mainly malt aroma but with pleasing citrus/hop undertones. Sharpness slightly overwhelms malt characteristics, though not to the detriment of the hoppy finish. Lighter than you’d expect from 5.6%. Overall, a very good hand-crafted lager from an underrated brewery.
Quack-Duck (1966), Bodensee, Germany Oct 7, 2008 previously tested on German BTO 10/2006: Ich finde die Flasche ganz gelungen, mutet sehr nostalgisch an.
Pours out in a hazy amber colour with a rich frothy off-white foam. Fresh spicy hops in the aroma with malty sweet notes of straw, dried oranges and mild herbs. Medium-bodied with notes of straw, white bread, biscuit, nuts, herbs, metal and spicy hops. Medium-bitter finish of grass and mild pepper with bready undertones. austone (565), Turku; Pori, Finland Aug 2, 2008 Bottle, 10 months past bbe. Murky orange yellow, firm pale head. Nose is lightly honeyish, mineral, little hops, overall quite neutral. Sweetish malty flavor, honey, little mineral finish. Medium bodied, strongly carbonated palate. Even when this old it’s alright, and probably a lot better fresh.
