beerguy101 (3522), Newark, California, USA Oct 21, 2004 Dark amber color. Large sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and fruity a touch floral. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are nutty and sweet, touches of fruit. Hops are spicy and not very bitter. Kind of a weird IPA. Taste more like a nutty brown ale or APA. Lively and tiny carbonation. A touch lactic, kind of weird yet again. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Jul 2, 2005 (22 oz bottle: $3.20 at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Okay, I’m fed up with this brewery. I bought a mixed case of their beer at BevMo and every single bottle (6 styles in all) was infected. I complained to the brewery and they shipped me 12 fresh bottles. So here’s the IPA, and dammit if it isn’t infected as well. It’s not quite as infected as the other bottles I had, but while those were undrinkable, this can be consumed but makes me want to puke. This is all grapefruit juice with some nasty tasting bacterial action going on in the background. Smells pretty nasty too. Ruddy amber color is nice, and the off-white head is large and long-lasting. But who cares about visuals when the beer is infected. You’d think a brewery-fresh bottle would be okay, but no. These guys really need to get their shit together. ratman197 (2455), Arvada, Colorado, USA Aug 9, 2005 Updated: Sep 18, 2005Bottle poured a clear copper with a lasting amber head. Aromas of pine, citrus and carmel. Palate was medium bodied and a bit resiny. Flavors of carmel, earthy hops, grapefruit rind with a bitter slightly dry finish. I emailed the brewery after rating the infected bottle I bought and they replyed to my email they had problems with beer sent to Northern Ca. and thought they had all been recalled. They asked for my address and sent me 2 bombers Fedex. In my opinion they care about their beer and are correcting problems. Vac (2274), San Diego, California, USA Nov 8, 2005 Pours with an amber body topped by a thick head with decent lacing. The aroma is Citrusy and hoppy with a slight sweetness and a little sourness. Umm...not quite sure about the flavor. It tastes kinda like a belgian beer but nothing close to an IPA. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a little spice. Medium bodied and smooth. bb (2222), Martinez, California, USA Dec 27, 2004 Bottle. Mostly this is a warning for infection. This was a drainpour. Dark amber with a big beige head. Some sweet malt aroma, very little hop. Beyond that - infected - 2 sips was all I could manage before I poured out the rest.
