Medium body thin texture doesn’t overpower the senses. hoppy with a subtle sweetness. No, it isn’t "monstrously hoppy" as the bottle claims, but it’s a great tasting hoppy red ale nonetheless. jeff789 (411), Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 15, 2008 This is not nearly hoppy enough for the name and label. If you take that away from it, i may have given it a higher rating. It does have a good deal of sweet malt backing up the generic hop flavor... I wouldnt go out of my way to drink this again with so many other quality options available... BossHossBikes (147), Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Bottle, best before October. Pours a dark orange with a two-finger frothy off-white head that creates some beautiful lacing. The aroma is of freshly cut white grapefruit. Some hint of hops, but the bouquet is mainly one-sided—very citrusy. The flavour is crisp. Grapefruit is the initial flavour. It’s not quite as dominant in the flavour as the aroma, but is still very prominent. As the brew starts to pass the tongue, some of the dry grain notes become noticeable as well as some subtle spices. Light hoppy bitterness bites the back of the tongue. Sweet, caramel flavours appear in the finish and outlasts the fainting bitterness. This is an easily quaffable beverage, great for a hot summer day. It wasn’t as hoppy as I was expecting, but I do like the amount of citrus. bp (458), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Bottle - deep hazy amber body with ample tan foam from a moderate pour. Bubbles race to the surface,. Aroma is sweet malt, tofee and burnt sugar with ample spicy citrus hop notes. Flavor comes in initially spicy and bitter before the sweet caramel malt & burnt sugar flavors take over. This if followed by a nice hoppy citrusy & slightly resinous mid-flavor. Finishes spicy and bitter as the carbonation swells up through the end notes. As the glass warms, the sweetness intensifies. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA

A sharp pour produces a three finger-thick, light tan colored head that sits on top of a clear, deeply red stained, dark amber colored brew. When held up to the light the beer shows a brilliantly clear fully red, copper color. As I pour this really sticky, huge aromas of crystal malt waft from my glass. A closer inspection yields an ample hop character that helps to tame the crystal malt abuse; the hops contribute bright aromas of candied grapefruit peel, tangelo and some light lychee notes. The crystal malt character contributes toasty malt notes, sticky caramelized grain touches and a sort of toffee / brown sugar sort of Maillard-type note. The aroma is not nearly as bad as that first pure whiff of crystal malt suggested and is actually somewhat more balanced towards the hop character than that of malt.
Quite frothy and a bit over carbonated, the beer definitely foams a bit as it hits my tongue. Once this is vigorously swirled to a more manageable carbonation level I can notice that sweet, caramelized malt notes accentuate a sticky, citrus character reminiscent of tangelo zest and grapefruit. There are some notes of pine here as well, but these come in more towards the finish where there is also a substantial, but well tempered by the malt, hop bitterness. As the beer warms in my glass the crystal malt flavors become more pronounced; lots of caramelized malt sugars, sticky, with some astringent grain notes and an almost bitter malt character.
Not bad, but the focus on the crystal malt character can be a bit much at times. If I wasn’t focusing on tasting this beer the over-use of crystal malt really wouldn’t bother as much as it does. TheJester (716), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 27, 2008 355 mL. (Says best before Sept, but it doesn’t say which year!) Reddish brown with a thick film of head. The hops (grapefruit and maybe some pineapple) are there in the aroma, but there is also some caramel sweetness. The flavour is quite sweet as well, but the hops dominate, both in terms of flavour and finish. Not bad, but nowhere near the complexity or refinement of Mill Street’s Tankhouse Ale. radiomgb (2040), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Amber-copper in colour, thin off-white coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is floral, very sweet, juicy, light lightgrapefruit, caramel. The flavour is of light grapefruit, moderate sweetness, sticky, some caramel. Sweet hoppy mouthfeel, meidum/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes lingering, some pine and grapefruit.
A small body hurts this, not overly hoppy. Wasn’t the hop bomb I was expecting.
