Commercial Description:
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven't done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer's new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Nice very deep and hazy amber coloured body with brown tints and a shade of ruby. Smallish tan head with some larger bubbles on the side of the glass. Aroma of pungent hops, strong malt, toffee, nuts and even a bit of metal. Medium-bodied; Strong hops up front in the taste fading to a bit of malt and some sweet caramel flavours near the end. Aftertaste shows some hops, but mostly rounded out malt - but this could be due to the age. Overall, a good showing from the beer, but not amazing. However, by me having this bottle for 4 years shows that it could still stand up over the time. I sampled this four year old bottle purchased from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York on 01-March-2008.

Nice reddish bronze color. Slight pale head - quickly diminished. The aroma and overall flavor is a face full of hops. I love this beer. It is sweet with a subtle malt flavor, but its all about the bitter, grassy hops. Will be buying more soon.

Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head. Very sweet and fresh aroma, with notes of floral hops, citrus fruits, and fresh grass. Medium body. Flavor is also very fresh and hoppy. Notes of lemon, grapefruit, and flowers. I really enjoyed this beer.

Bottle: Pours deep copper with a thin tan head. Big chewy aroma. Sticky and sweet cascade citruses, caramel, toasted vanilla and a cookie hint. Fairly creamy texture, but light to medium bodied. The flavor has some sweet caramel malt giving body, there’s also a mild toasted/dried/crackery malt presence (almost seems like British malts) The hops aren’t really fruity, just somewhat resinous and has a slightly inky bitter finish. Kinda sweet, but tasty and somewhat balanced.

[1013-20071229] 355mL. Hoppy woodsy resin aroma with a hint of grapefruit sweat. Hazy, dark brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Bitter woodsy grass hops and malt flavour. Medium body. Interesting.
