Commercial Description:
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven't done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer's new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Reddish with off-white, thick head. Caramel malt is present in the aroma and heavy in the taste. Cascade hops are prevalent but dissipate before the finish leaving each drink feeling like something is missing. Quite drinkable, though.

A good easy drinking ale that is fruity as all heck. There is a good dose of crystal malt that adds a nice cookie texture to the beer. The cascades are well represented, but not out of balance.

a red pale ale? does not work. sweetness eliminates the hoppyness. and it ends up just creamy. doesn’t work at all

Aug. 24, 2007; 12 oz. bottle sampled in a Trappist glass. Never heard of this one -- caught my eye at an Upstate NY supermarket. Reddish-caramel-colored, minimal head/lacing. Aroma & flavor is appropriately hoppy, but the "bottom end" of this is wanting, and the finish is a bit watery. Could be the poorer cousin of SN’s Celebration Ale. An above-average beer nonetheless, and a good find so close to home.

Pours a clear reddish amber color with a small white head. Aroma of cascade hops, caramel malt and sweet pine. Taste is hoppy with hints of sweet pine, caramel and a floral finish. Nice IPA.

Bottle. Ruby color with a small head. Aroma of caramel malts and citrus and pine hops. Very balanced taste; and it has a pretty good, fruity/IPA flavor. But it’s a bit thin. Dry finish. A lot of the elements are there, but the thin texture keeps this from rating higher.
