| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Saison aye? The pour is almost fully black with a robust 1.5 finger beige head with tight, fine bubbly froth. Lacing climbs and sticks fervently. A nice lattice climbs in the wake of the first quaffs. Aroma is citrus, caramel, biscuit, toast, clove, allspice, and a mild lemony grass hop character. Flavor is malt heavy for the style- caramel, toast, brown sugar, and toffee. Hop character provides a nice balance- citrusy, spicy, and herbal in its character. Palate is medium bodied, silky, creamy, and quite effervescent. Finish is mildly sticky and smacking with a tinge of roast. Not at all in line with the style, but enjoyable just the same. yesyouam (602), Fairport, New York, USA

This beer is brownish black with a smooth, dense, light brown head that has excellent retention and lacing. Dark fruit and clove are prominent in the spicy aroma. It’s medium bodied, foamy and lively with a chalky finish. It has a bold, phenolic flavor that’s nicely balanced with a touch of sweet, sour and bitter. It gets chocolaty and dusty at the finish. There are lots of cloves and prunes throughout. This is nice. What’s with the interwebz calling this a Saison? To me, this is more along the lines of Trois Pistoles. alobar (1020), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma: Candi sugar, banana, bubble gum and cloves.
Taste: Banana, bready malt, cloves, spicy yeast and spicy hops.
Mouthfeel: Thick and slightly fizzy.
Overall: A very nice, balanced Belgian Ale. I could see the Winter/Holiday theme going on in this beer. Would go great with a piece of pumpkin pie for sure. TomDecapolis (3188), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
