Commercial Description:
Made with 100% New York State hops. India Pale Ale (IPA) is a style of beer renowned for its hop character. Some modern brewers have taken this tradition to the next level with the "Double IPA". What better way to parade the potential of NYS hop farming than with our new Double IPA. Hop farming once thrived in New York State. In the early 1900s, 95% of all hops used in the US were grown here in New York. However, soon the combination of crop disease & prohibition put an end to local hop growing. There is a new movement afoot to bring commercial hops back to NY. The Ithaca Beer Co. has teamed up with Pederson Farms (Seneca Castle, NY) to bring you this exceptional ale.

Great Hop aroma as soon as you open the bottle. This brew is all about hops but unlike many IPAs it has has some depth to it that makes this a very drinkable 10% abv.

Amber body with a large white head, decent lacing. Aroma is loaded with grapefruit and citrus. I was really hoping it would be something different based on the bottle logo claiming only NY hops, but oh well. Sharp mouthfeel with some slight syrupyness and alcohol in the finish. Unfortunately not that interesting. Oh well, it’s still tasty.

got this while visiting my girlfriends in ct. it was a hell of a weekend. anyway, it is turbid with an apricot hue. no head to speak of. i didn’t find any brutal hoppiness but i did find sweet with a hop underbite. i’m not a fan of the doubles but this wasn’t too bad after i got over the intial thought of "hmm, liquid candy"

Brutally hoppy bite, tongue-scraping in bitterness and really an all out attack on the mouth. Surprisingly balanced, considering this. I’m not seeing any other ratings that reflect this, so maybe I got a very fresh bottle... there is no date. There is a fair bit of spice in the nose and interesting complexity. This is a very solid IIPA.

Bottle (thanks argo0). Golden color, hazy appearance, medium white head with some lacing. Aroma is hoppy, citrus and soap. Flavor is similar, hops hit up front, with a dry finish, and less hop flavor on the back end, although there is a grassy aftertaste. Really can’t feel the 10% ABV, so there must be some very good blending of hops and malt. Very pleasant beer. And btw, my wife went to Cornell so does that get me some kind of free beer if I visit????

Clear gold pour with a white head. Bready malt and flowery hop aroma. Balanced flavor, sticky resiny citrus hops and caramel malt. A bit thin for the style, but this drinks easily enough.

Golden amber ale with a thin off white head. A rather floral hops aroma in attack, with signs of oxidized malts. In mouth, biscuitty malts, with grapefruity hops, a clean bitterness lingering, and caramel in finish. Medium bodied. Good but not Imperial. August 26,2006 at McGregor’s, Henrietta, NY. Served in a chalice, 5$.

Very pleasing aroma, bread dough and lemons. Nice sweet malty taste up front then some toffee then liberal amounts of hops. They fade away for a clean finish. Appearance is nice orange with a heavy white head (nice retention). Nice product.
