Commercial Description:
Made with 100% New York State hops. India Pale Ale (IPA) is a style of beer renowned for its hop character. Some modern brewers have taken this tradition to the next level with the "Double IPA". What better way to parade the potential of NYS hop farming than with our new Double IPA. Hop farming once thrived in New York State. In the early 1900s, 95% of all hops used in the US were grown here in New York. However, soon the combination of crop disease & prohibition put an end to local hop growing. There is a new movement afoot to bring commercial hops back to NY. The Ithaca Beer Co. has teamed up with Pederson Farms (Seneca Castle, NY) to bring you this exceptional ale.

Small, short lived tan head sits on top of this orange bodied brew, pretty hazy as well. Nose is mainly caramel malts with some faint citrus notes, mint. Body is med/full lightly oily on the palate with a low carbonation level. Grainy malt flavors up front with orangey hop flavors along with some tea baggy flavors, a bit resiny and grassy. Malts seem fairly sweet and or not enough bittering hops to offset the sweetness, under attenuated, all the above? Finish is a bit sweet, fruity with a touch of alcohol warmth. 12oz bottle received in trade from coldbrewky, thanks Steve!

sampled on tap at the brewpub. light amber/dark orange in color. Aroma is alot of floral hops as well alot of caramel. Taste: I would say this beer is more in balance that alot of double IPA’s- tons of pale and crystal malts (caramel) with a moderate amount of floral and citrus hop character. Bitterness is light to medium for the style and the body is full. clean and well made, but I like a more robust PNW hop character in IIPA’s.

Dark Orange/Amber color with Off White Skin. Very Strong Aroma of Caramel and Citrus. Medium Bodied. Dry Hop Hazed Mouthfeel. Nice Strong Sweet Caramel Beginning...Carrying Through in the Background to Balance out the Aggressive Hopping of this Brew. Nice Citrus Notes Popping in and Out...Nice Clean, but STrong Taste...Sweet Caramel and Dry Hopped Finish. Nice Subtle Warming. Very Smooth for 10%. After Continued Drinking the Dry Hop Taste Sticks to the Roof of Your Mouth. Overall a Very Solid Double IPA from Ithaca.

(bottle, thanks Brewfiend) Pours a copper color with a medium white head. Aroma is very citrusy and smells quite similar to canned mandarin oranges. Very sweet caramel malt flavor initially, but then the hops come in at the finish which leaves a nice bitter flavor.

Nice orange color with faint head. Orange citrus hop nose a little too much malt in the hoppy body.

[Bottle, thanks Brewfiend] Pours a dark golden with a small white head. Aroma is citrusy hops (Guerde nailed it when he said that it was mandarin orange). Taste is a little sweet, then strongly of hops. Decent mouthfeel, long finish. Ok, but hoppy bitterness is unbalanced and too strong.

On tap at Ithaca Beer Co. Pours a clear copper orange with a thin head that quickly faded to a ring. Pleasant aroma of oranges, grapefruit and pine. The flavor was again oranges, grapefruit and pine along with a bit of sweet malt. Some lingering bitterness at the finish. The alcohol was very well hidden with only a bit of warmth after the swallow. Medium bodied.
