Commercial Description:
Made with 100% New York State hops. India Pale Ale (IPA) is a style of beer renowned for its hop character. Some modern brewers have taken this tradition to the next level with the "Double IPA". What better way to parade the potential of NYS hop farming than with our new Double IPA. Hop farming once thrived in New York State. In the early 1900s, 95% of all hops used in the US were grown here in New York. However, soon the combination of crop disease & prohibition put an end to local hop growing. There is a new movement afoot to bring commercial hops back to NY. The Ithaca Beer Co. has teamed up with Pederson Farms (Seneca Castle, NY) to bring you this exceptional ale.

Pours a murky orange brown color. Thick white head that dissolved to a scattered lacing resting on top. Nose is more malty with som citrus and orange tones cming from the hops. A really, smooth and balanced DIPA. NY State can produce some decent hops. Malts are strong and give a sgary, almost-caramel base. Hops are mild citrus and provide a slow, smooth bitterness rather than a biting bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and refreshing. I am really enjoying this DIPA. Hop oils stick around a bit but not so much as to ruin the palate. My second bottle will not last long.

Bottle. Pours a copper color with a rather large off white, frothy head. Aroma is caramel, grapefruit, pine, floral hops. Flavor is again the same, caramel, grapefruit, pine, floral hops, and some alcohol warmth. Palate is medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, nice silky smooth mouth, initially finishes sweet then bitter after a second or two. I thought this was pretty dang good. For a style that being pumped out by everyone and their grandma, this to me comes just shy of an upper eschelon IIPA.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear orangish-amber color; fluffy off-white head with great lacing. Chewy, resiny hop aroma; some maple syrup and sugar. Average carbonation. Full, chewy mouthfeel: excellent resiny hop density, with a balancing brown sugar maltiness; nicely done, drinkable double IPA. Lengthy, hoppy finish; slightly dry.

Had on tap at the Ithaca Ale House. Nice strong hoppy aroma with flowery and earthy undertones. Pours a cloudy amber with minimal head. Taste is bitter upfront and at the back end. Citrus mixes in between the bitterness. Definitely a different type of hops than I’m used to, but a very fine beer.
