Commercial Description:
Rich and roasty, with a pleasant lingering smoked malt flavor. This brew is black in color, sports a fine light tan head, and weighs in at a healthy 6.3% alcohol by volume. The distinctive smokey character comes from the use of special beechwood smoked malt from Bamburg, Germany. The hefty malt character is nicely balanced with fresh U.S. Northern Brewer hops to round out this nutritious, tasty, brew! Available Fall / Winter

Above average beer which is good in terms of a sweet smokiness but seems a bit watery and has an odd off flavor in the aftertaste (could be frpm the beechwood). I like the malty nutty tones and the flavor seems pretty balanced even though its not delivering a smoky smackdown.

In my three or so smoked porters I have noticed one thing. They usually taste pretty much the same as the last one. It’s like Iron Maiden though, every song may be the same, but it’s a damn good song. Rock on.

Pours a dark brown with ruby hints that has a small quickly fading head... Relatively generic aroma, with notes of chocolate and a bit more of coffee, and FINALLY, a note of smoke... Sweet roasty and a wee bit smoky flavor... Actually quite a bit smoky... I genuinely like this beer... This is a bit better than its rating as far as im concerned

Tap at Barcade: Dark pour, some light comes through at the edges- has a tan ring of head. The aroma isn’t really smoky- does have some peat notes, dark cocoa and a light coffee-like roast. Slick feel. Smooth roast throughout, again, not much smoke. A peated malt suggestion is there, especially when it warms. There’s also a touch of nutty character (perhaps crystal malt notes) and a light coffeeish roast in the finish. A decent Porter, but when classified as a smoked, I’d say it needs more smoke!

courtesy of tpd975. pours copper with beige head. Aroma of light smoke, malt caramel with plenty of chocolate. Taste, smoke, malts, chocolate, dark fruits with a light vanialla touch and some tobacco. Smoke is present but not overwhelming.

Bottle drink before March. Basically a medium-bodied sessions porter, but with a really nice restrained smoke flavor. I don’t like heavy smoke, so this is right up my alley. One of Ithaca’s better everyday beers.

(Rating #2126)

With any carbonation this beer would be very nice. Aroma was decent. Smoke with stale chocolate. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a one finger tan head that left as soon as it came. Taste was flat. Chocolate and coffee in the front with a minor smokiness through the middle and a bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. The lack of any carbonation makes the beer taste stale.
