Commercial Description:
Rich and roasty, with a pleasant lingering smoked malt flavor. This brew is black in color, sports a fine light tan head, and weighs in at a healthy 6.3% alcohol by volume. The distinctive smokey character comes from the use of special beechwood smoked malt from Bamburg, Germany. The hefty malt character is nicely balanced with fresh U.S. Northern Brewer hops to round out this nutritious, tasty, brew! Available Fall / Winter

With any carbonation this beer would be very nice. Aroma was decent. Smoke with stale chocolate. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a one finger tan head that left as soon as it came. Taste was flat. Chocolate and coffee in the front with a minor smokiness through the middle and a bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. The lack of any carbonation makes the beer taste stale.

Nice robust, roasty porter. The smoke aspect is not at all present though, so that was misleading. Slight coco flavor, a little coffee, lots of burnt roast malt, good stuff, but was looking for some smoke!

Draft pint at Zeno’s is deep brown with red light at the bottom and a medium to dark brown nitro-like head. Soft and chewy roasted malt and chocolate flavor, weak malt body overall, with a medium to light depth of flavor. Basically not as complex as it really should be, and the smoke character is very weak. To be fair it really doesn’t taste bad at all, but it just lacks depth and complexity. Very mild smoke, more of a char and roasted chocolate malt than actual smoked malt. Sweetened dark fruits in a long lasting finish. Fairly nice.

12 oz bottle, via BA beertruth. Pours a dark brown body with a smallish fizzy tan head that faded fairly quickly. The nose says that this is more Porter than Smoked, there’s a lot more roast and chocolate notes than smoke, and the smoke that is there is a very subtle type. No memories of campfires or barbecues here. The flavor is of a decent Porter, roasty and with some coffee, with just the lightest hint of smoked meat coming on late in the finish. Light lingering bitterness from both the malt and hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with nice fairly soft fizzy carbonation and a finish that lingers on sufficiently. Overall, a decent beer, but taking into consideration that this is classified as a Smoked versus a Porter, this has to get a slightly lower rating.

Bottle from a variety pack.Pours a very dark brown with a smallish tan head. Aroma is malty with a bit of smoke. Taste is almost like a smoked cheese, some malt aftertaste but not much. This is a good one, I’m not usually a big fan of smoked beers but this one is very well balanced. I also like the logo art. Very niceWould buy again

Bottle. Pours deep brown with a thick bubbly tan head. The aroma was slightly smokey like a nice kielbasa. It was a bit malty and not overwhelming. The taste was smokey as well and again not overwhelming.

Nearly black without much of a head. Roasted barley and cheap coffee aroma with hints of smoke. Roasty flavors accompanied by light notes of cocoa and smoke. Finishes dry with some subtle lingering smokey flavors.

Thanks abcfan. Poured a nice standard porter, dark with a one finger tan head. The aroma was nice and roasty, sweet, some smoked character but not very big on it. Flavor is the same, a nice porter but not much smoked character.
