Commercial Description:
Rich and roasty, with a pleasant lingering smoked malt flavor. This brew is black in color, sports a fine light tan head, and weighs in at a healthy 6.3% alcohol by volume. The distinctive smokey character comes from the use of special beechwood smoked malt from Bamburg, Germany. The hefty malt character is nicely balanced with fresh U.S. Northern Brewer hops to round out this nutritious, tasty, brew! Available Fall / Winter

A clear dark brown porter with a thin moka head. Aroma is sweet caramel and chocolate, not very smokey but pleasant. In mouth, a good sweet chocolate, torrefied coffee, and definite smokey notes, not overwhelming, but interesting, light smokey bacon. Sustained burned toast bitterness. A good smoked porter.

Thanks Chuck. The beer pours to a dark garnet body with a thin whitish head. The aroma is smoked soy sauce, smoked woods, and teriyaki sauce. The flavor is sweet dark soy sauce, roasted black patent malt, and smoked wood. The palate is moderately bodied and nicely smoky.

Dark pour tiny whispy tan head not much lacing. Mesquite wood burning aroma some hints of an odd sweetness some lactose notes not overly appealing. Palate is fairly thin decent carbonation some good coating. Flavor is mesquite wood chips some salty notes some blah.. just not very good.

Pours with a small, off-white head-- it’s a deep red-black. There is a light aroma of roast and smoke-- like a barbeque. The taste is stong-- almost completely of smoke. It seems like maybe mesquite or hickory, a little salty. The body is light, a little watery and perhaps a bit flat. What a strange beer.

on tap MacGregors.. Pours dark brown nearing black with a two fingered head. smells malts, roasty malts, smoked wood, and cheese. tastes like a smoked wood with toasty malts, not terribly complex and finish is a bit off.

12 fl .oz. bottle from Lubiere. App.: very dark brown, minimal mocha head. Aroma: spiced cherries, smoke (duh), some dried fruits, a bit of dark-roasted coffee/malt. Palate: med.-full body, silky soft carbonation. Flav.: slightly sweet, dark malts and raisins, much of the nose carries through. The smoke is there, but only faintly. That’s ok by me...not a fan of too much!
