dkachur (2317), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 31, 2009 750 mL bottle at the Relentless Thirst Gathering in Richmond, VA, 8.29.09. Pours a dark amber color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is very roasty dark coffee with some caramel also. Taste is bitter coffee and dark roasted malts. Medium bodied. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Aug 10, 2009 0.75l - The roasted coffee meshed well with the woody notes of the bock style. A twist on the style with good results. I’m in no rush for more. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Jun 27, 2009 Poured an effervescent dark mahogany with a fizzy light tan head. Somewhat sweet aroma of dark fruit with a touch of smoky molasses... bock-like, but not as rich as some of the style standouts. Flavor is nice and complex with notes of smoky molasses and bitter coffee with vinous fruits hanging in the background. The coffee made its presence known without becoming overpowering. A rare case when a beer’s taste stands out as its strongest attribute. NickTheElder (25), California, USA Apr 9, 2009 Bottle shared by Hophead22. Roasted coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee... need I say more. mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Apr 8, 2009 Bottle shared by Hophead22. Pours black with a red tint and no head. Aroma is Coffee with a hint of vanilla. Flavor is very much like cold coffee. a touch of graininess but that’s about it. Maybe a little mocha. Thin bodied but still somewhat creamy. One dimensional but still tasty. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Apr 5, 2009 750ml bottle from goryshkewych, thanks george. Very dark brown pour. Cofee aroma of course, but not as intense as I expected. Very smooth, slight espresso, very good. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 28, 2009 750mL bottle, June 07 release, #105. Poured clear, healthy medium brown with a swirly dusting of tan head. The aroma picked up a lovely blend of aged caramel, moderately-roasted espresso, chocolate, and earthy notes.. intermittent wafts of brown sugar and vanilla.. excellent! The flavor opened with lightly sour, blacker malts with charred espresso and caramel rolling in shortly afterward.. coffee bitterness played well with earthy bitters on the edges.. finished dry and a bit grainy with a warm impression. Medium-bodied with low carbonation that moved it well across the palate.. lengthy, memorable finish. I really dug this one. hellbilly (1498), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Dec 23, 2008 bottle #769 from 6/2007 by way of alldaydrinker.
pours on the brown side of ruby brown with a small agitated beige head which quickly fades. it does manage to deposit some spotty lacing before it goes.
smells like a really nice porter... spent wet coffee grounds, toasty grains, molasses, brown sugar, scalded cream and lots o maltiness.
it*s barely sweet on the palate and the coffee taste is much more tame than the aroma... flavors of amped up malt powder, chocolate, graham crackers and light ashiness with a dry slightly sour finish. nice mellow coffee bean aftertaste... mmm. medium body with an airy texture and super creamy lush mouth feel.
terribly delicious but very uncomplicated. i could probably drink another one right now if i had it, though!
