Crystal clear. Slightly darker than straw color. Large white head. Spicy aroma. Some cloves. Some band-aid. Possibly some cedar. Maybe a hint of brett, but it might just be the yeast phenolics. Sweet malty flavor with some hop bitterness in back. Some wheat spiciness in the flavor. Medium body. Nice slightly creamy mouthfeel. Overall a very interesting beer with some unique aromas and flavors. Thanks to IslandHaole for the trade!

Deep, dark golden yellow, cloudy as hell, slightly glowing, slight orange tint. Very low head. Sweet, cake-like aroma of banana, cloves, wheat malt, a touch of citrus. Tangy, sweet-citrus flavor, banana, clove, bitterness from hop I suppose, plus something a bit medicinal. Marachino cherries too. More bitterness than expected, and very complex, but a little unsure of itself and chaotic. Light palate. Not very carbonated. Interesting, but a bit strange.

Bottle. Hazy apple juice looking, small head. Sparkling effervescence, fruity characteristics, especially green apples and some white grapes. Sugary, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Smooth and crisp, decent stuff.

330mL Bottle Pours a light ebony mahogany color with thin light head and some lacing. The nose is strong with esters of banana and clove, the wheat aspect of it is a bit more hidden but is there along with some subtle fruity aspects, some of which derive from the ethanol. The flavor is starchy with cakey aspects of sweet brown sugar and vanilla mixed in with yeast and a malty body. The finish is more balanced with a pleasant bouquet of wheat and malt that grace the tail of the mouthfeel. Smooth drinking along with good quaffability. Thanks IslandHaole for this lovely 日本ビール!

Yellow gold with a slight haze…generous, tight, small bubbled off white foam… strongly aromatic bananas, cloves that lost their spice component, and cracked fresh wheat. The spiciness of the cloves comes out on the palate to accompany the wheaty malts and underlying hop presence. There is a light creaminess in the palate, which turns slightly gritty towards the end as the yeast and peppery spice come through. Moist finish, tingling with spices, cake and yeast. A well done sample, thanks for the opportunity IslandHaole!

Brownish copper color, malty nose with cloves, oranges and a touch of rich caramel. It is lighter than I expected for the style with some interesting coriander and spices in the mouth and dry warming finish.

A slightly hazy copper color with a beige head. Big malty nose with plenty of cloves and yeast. Malty with some banana and cloves, a bittersweet middle and a bit of an alcohol follow with some bitterness ligering on a while. It’s not Aventinus, but a very good Weizenbock. Considering where it’s made it’s great! Iwate Kura is doing things right. In fact, the four breweries I have visited in Iwate Prefecture (Hiraniwa Kogen, Baeren, Kitakami Wakkaen & Iwate Kura) all have memorable beers! Thanks for 3 fun filled and informative years Ratebeer!
