Wow! Creamy velvet body, hops, hops, hops, great hop aroma, lots of mild esb hop flavor, but not ’hoppy’, fantastic until the cask was kicked, one of the top 5 casks of all time. Wow!

Tap at the brewpub on 2/3/08: Transparent copper orange with a wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet toasty caramel malty notes and some earthy piny English hops. Body starts with good fullness and sweet toasty caramel maltiness balanced with a resiny hop bitterness. Smooth, true to style and enjoyable, a good ESB.

Draught. Pours clear mahogany with a small, fizzy, white head, diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is average malt (straw, bread, chocolate), average hop (grass), average yeast (dough) with notes of pear and apple. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity, and heavy bitterness. Light chocolate, caramel notes in the flavor.

Draught at the brewpub. Had the carbonated AND cask versions. Both are a clear copper color with off white head that laced the glass. Sprucy hop nose. Flavor is a bit more balanced with the addition of earthy note and light skunky tone. Eh. The cask version smells a bit better with no improvement in the flavor.

On tap at the Jack of the Wood. They now rate this at 5.3% abv with 32 IBU’s. Amber color. No head. Extremely earthy. Tastes like worms. Not a good beer. Supposed to be fuggles hops here, but you can neither smell or taste them.

Cloudy brown - woodsy and grassy aroma, with a nice smokey edge. Flavor is toasty and smokey, with an earthy edge, plus a pleasent hoppy finish. Nice session ale.
