On tap at the pub. Pours dark, nearly black with small off-white head. Nose offers roasty malt with definite coffee and chocolate notes. Flavor reveals creamy lactic presence and a more English style. Very tasty, and great with some of the food there.

A solid but unremarkable porter. Mostly malt, a bit of roastiness in the finish.

Draught. Pours black with a small, fizzy, light brown head, diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (chocolate, coffee, toasted grain), light hop (herb), average yeast (leather) with notes of tar, charcoal, and plum. Medium bodied, gritty texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

Tap at the brewpub on 2/3/08: Pours a nearly opaque black with dark mahogany hues and a well-lacing froth of light tan head. Sweet toasty dark caramel malty nose has some milk chocolate notes. Body starts with good fullness and rich sweet dark caramel maltiness balanced with some light hop bitterness before a smooth, bittersweet dark chocolate finish. A very nice porter.

On tap at Jack of the Wood. Roasted malt, chocolate, and light licorice in nose. Mild hop character but lots of sweet tones. Smooth in aroma. Dark dark brown clear with no head. Medium body with medium-light carbonation. Sweet start with light carbonation, mild alcohol and esters. Kind of fruity with coffee and brown sugar. Nutty sweet finish and not bitter at all. Smoooth.

Black with small head at pour. Dark chocolate in the aroma which seemed bittersweet. Flavor is very dark chocolate with hint of nuts. Not particularly balanced but ok.
