| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2009 on tap at Jack of the Wood. Pours a deep dark oily black with a thinning head. A big punch of licorice and anise seed are pretty strong upfront with dark bittersweet chocolate and light fruity esters. Flavor also is big with tar and licorice, some nutty dark chocolate and earth and leather with a slight slick oily anise thing in the end. Ok but not great. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 6, 2009 Growler purchased at Bruisin Ales. Dark brown with mahogany highlights and a medium, creamy, tan head. Light roasted malt aromas, hints of some earthy hops. Medium body, tending toward lighntess, tends to wash out on the palate a bit. Burnt sugar flavor up front, some herbal bitterness follows. Not anything extraordinary, but a decent session beer. dkachur (2414), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 6, 2009 Sampler at the brewpub. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts with earthy, slightly metallic hops. Taste is roasted malts, caramel, hops and faint chocolate. Medium bodied. This beer seemed to have a strong desire to spill. First my server spilled some and then I did later. What the heck? 1400th rating. Woot! doboy (195), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 27, 2009 An OK porter. Poured back with a nice tan head. The aroma had a burnt maltiness to it. The malty taste also had somewhat of a burnt maltiness to it as well. The mouthfeel was ok. Nothing to distinguish it as a Great Porter.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 22, 2009 Cask at Jack of the Wood. This thing was delicious pulled from the cask. Came out pretty flat with just a little head and not much below room temperature. Big rich aroma and flavors of roasted coffee beans, smoke, and very dark chocolate. Warmed me up lightly while going down creamy smooth. Like a roastier version of a good English ale. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 15, 2009 What a cool little place this is. Draft @ the pub: I thought this was a great porter without the heavy coffee or chickory character that so many porters have. Great body full of roasty chocolate malts. Drinkable and dry. Yum.
