On tap at BP. A black pour with a hint of red and a light tan lace. An arom o of coffee and light chocolate ont he nose. An adaquate bitter and a hint of sweetness, chocoffee hints as well with a light sourness in the finish. Carbonation and mouthfeel are good. An ok pour just the sour doesn’t seem right not a bad beer but just not there on the upper level of beers either.

Appearance: At least in the dim lighting of the Jack of the Wood pub, this beer had a black body crowned with an off-white head. Smell: The aroma has nary but a hint of chocolate. Taste: Nice, semi-sweet chocolatey flavor with a bit of nuttiness. Finished dry, but with no bitterness (or hop character for that matter). Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Fairly simple and straight-forward, though it made for fine, easy drinking hours after the Brewgrass Beer Festival. **** Re-sampled on 2/3/08 at the Green Man brewery: (Currently listed as 6.1% abv at the brewery). Appearance: Dark brown body with a small, light beige head. Smell: An aroma akin to a Heath bar with added notes of roasted nuts. Taste: Pleasant mix of toffee, semi-sweet chocolate, and roasted nuts with a medium sweetness. A very light touch of roast and earthy bitterness brings balance. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Pretty solid! Presents a bit more character than our last encounter.

Black pour, with pretty much no head. Decent roast aroma, some mild chocolate and dark malts as well. pretty standard. The flavor has a much bigger chocolate character, very smooth and easy to drink. Nice dark malty flavor, with almost no bitterness in the aftertaste. Pretty good actually, probably the saving grace for this brewery. Definitely their best beer.

Draught at Jack. Opaque black-brown with a short tanned head. Aroma mysteriously absent, perhaps a whiff of chocolate. Beautiful woody chocolate taste, light hop prickling. Some fruitiness creeping in there. Lightly bitter and dry aftertaste, medium-full body. Some good aspects, but lacking on the whole.
