6% ABV - served on Cask. The aroam was roasty with a nice chocolate nature, nutty, toasty and grainy with a bit of coffee and light caramel. The beer arrived clear yet deep black with a tannish frothy head which laced the glass from top to bottom. The flavor was filled with a nice chocolate, milk chocolate, with a light roasty nature and a bit of graininess. Light caramel was notable with any appreciable sweetness. The finish was nice and dry with a toasty and lightly roasty flavor into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a very creamy texture on the palate. A very nice porter! Handpull at Dirty Jacks.

Appearance: Dark and sleek Nose: Faint chocolate. Not a lot in the aroma department. Taste: Chocolate! hoppy, sweet, smooth, AMAZING. Palate: A perfect 5 Overall: rather Murphy’s-esque. I could drink this particular Porter all night long, probably. Superb.

On site, one of the best porters you’ll ever drink. I plan on doing it over and over and over....

Tap at the brewpub on 2/3/08: Pours a nearly opaque black with dark mahogany hues and a well-lacing froth of light tan head. Sweet toasty dark caramel malty nose has some milk chocolate notes. Body starts with good fullness and rich sweet dark caramel maltiness balanced with some light hop bitterness before a smooth, bittersweet dark chocolate finish. A very nice porter.

I had the cask version horizontal to the regular draught. This rating applies to the much superior casked porter. Pours a very deep brown that cascades quickly to leave a dense gray head. There’s a woody, roasted barley aroma with some thick mocha. The flavor is solidly malty with some burned coffee & cream and some burboun sweetness in the finish. This laces intensely as I drink.

3 day old growler from Dirty Jacks. Pours opaque dark brown with no head (function of 3-day old growler). Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, light smoke, light nuttiness, and toffee. Moderately full flavor of roast coffee and bakers chocolate. Dry, with a some piney hops which impart an impression of freshness at the finish. Medium-bodied, moderately low carbonation, smooth, and very drinkable. Excellent porter.

Cask at Jack of the Wood. This thing was delicious pulled from the cask. Came out pretty flat with just a little head and not much below room temperature. Big rich aroma and flavors of roasted coffee beans, smoke, and very dark chocolate. Warmed me up lightly while going down creamy smooth. Like a roastier version of a good English ale.
