| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 28, 2004 Deep orange/amber color. Very frothy and rocky head. Fruity, mildly bitter flavor. The hops, though light, were more floral. A drinkable, interesting beer. Chickencoop (35), California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Picked this up at Total Wine in Roseville, pretty solid store just as an FYI, there are like 2 in California and by chance I hit both in a week, sweet. I picked up everything from these guys on a recommendation. To the beer, big malty IPA, not what you’d expect from NoCal but a pleasant surprise. This is very balanced for a 6.5% IPA, not over hopped and not to malty, a throwback to the original style. Big fan, next time up there i’m getting more. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2005 Draft. Caramel amber beer with a thin off-white head. Low citrus aroma compared to flavor. Lots of citrus in flavor with a caramel backing. LIngering bitterness. There’s a hint of chocolate malt, some fruitiness, and a bit of tannin. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 14, 2004 Bought this because I recently had a sweet Newfoundland dog named Boomer. This was a murky deep copper body with a HUGE off-white head. HUGE. Had a nice hoppy, grapefruity aroma but not as intense as other IPAs. Medium body with a smooth and refreshing mouthfeel. Flavor was pleasant sweetness and lightly hoppy. Not bad. hayduke (1664), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2008 From a 12 oz bottle that cost $1.49 at Corti Bros in Sacramento, this poured an amber-orange with a medium white head and lots of lacing. Nose is a blend of citrus and floral hops, and light malts. Mouhtfeel is quite smooth and feels good in the throat. Flavor is complex, with the aforementioned hops and malts, but also tinges of fruit and other hard to identify flavors. Finish is nicely bitter, however, and over all it is a quite drinkable IPA. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2009 On tap and the Raley Field Brewfest in West Sacramento, CA. A little different than many IPA’s I’ve had. The hops are a big muted, but are there. Sweet citrus flavor with a smooth palate. bhensonb (4360), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Malty aroma backed by fruity/floral aspects. Rich reddish amber color with a white head that ringed. Thin to medium bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor suggests tea, tobacco, peach, harsh roasted malt, grapefruit hop. The net effect is rather dirty/gritty. So it’s not all that smooth, but it does have impact. The finish is sweet, dry, astringent. Something of an interesting contradiction. As time wears on the fruitiness gains prominence. Some of the annoying characteristics seem to be in the Big Ass brews. There’s enough flavor here to make them tolerable. Interesting overall.
