Nose of bourbon, vanilla and very strong oak, rhubarb. Odd and roasty, a touch of funky chocolate. The flavor is like super old chocolate and a touch of roasted licorice. Anise extract is present. Very different stout, nicely roasted. twindadplus2 (415), Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Aug 22, 2005 Bottle. Medium black color with a ruby tinge and a thin short-lived head. Sweet aroma with molasses, licorice and roasted malts. Flavor is lactic and very sweet with more molasses and brown sugar plus a small roasted barley note. Bitter chocolate coffee finish. Full bodied and smooth. Not a bad stout, just not very inspiring. rauchbier (3000), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England

Quite sweet aromas with hints of milky coffee and liquorice, bittersweet in the mouth with some chocolate and liquorice along with a roasted note and some woodiness. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 2, 2005 12 oz bottle. Sampled at the Lynnwood International Swill Fest. Dark black color. Small sized beige head. Aroma is chocolate, rum and licorice. A medium bodied Foreign Stout. Malts are chocolate and toffee. There is a strong lactic character to this beer as well. Smooth taste, creamy and almost silky. Lively carbonation. Touch of an off flavor, plastic?, cardboard? At the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 2, 2005 This beer pours a near black color with hints of ruby red, a nice but small tanned head and moderate lacing. The aroma is a bit strange with chocolate, malt, coffee, lacticness and nuts in the aroma....i mean... NUTS??? The flavor is medium to full bodied and super lactic. Generally smooth with a silky mouthfeel. Some hints of chocolate grainyness, lactic qualities and perhaps caramel sweetness. Dry cottonmouth finish with coffee beans and that typical plastic finish I’ve come to expect with foreign stouts. More or less enveloping flavor, but it doesnt develop as much as I’d like it too...and once again, what is up with lactic foreign stouts???? tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Opaque brown body with low tan head that recedes to ring. Chocolate and strawberry flavours with a lactic character and mild roasty bitterness. Medium-ful body with low carbonation and fair alcohol warming. Bottle (trade, Dec-04) sampled with MartinT, Oivier_MTL and Rastacouere. Thanks, Degarth!
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 5, 2005 Deep ruby brown, no head at all. Anise and chocolate aroma has a minty edge to it, aftereight reminiscent as well as herbal, maple and lactic undertones. Darkish malts are sweet and caramelised on the palate, mint is still a factor while the roastiness reminds of coffee. Not quite as balanced as most, it feels like a low weight, light carbonation, fairly light body, fading flavours.
