I wasn’t aware that Pilseners could be brewed using Ojibwe manoomin (wild rice). A decent enough drink, deep gold, slight head, musty earthy hop odor over sweet grasses. The flavor had a surprisingly fruity, apple & peach, kind of a twist. An earthy hop bitterness returns on the finish

Dark golden color with a smaller diminishing yellowish (similar to a ages piece of paper) colored head. Toasted white bread aromas along with some light caramel and a hint of light floral hops. Really has a wild rice quality. Lightly sweet wild rice flavors mix with mild rose and lavender. A sweeter lager. A mild bitter linger helps ensure that his does get to sweet. A novel brew. Let see if Point does anything with this one. Thanks CharlesDarwin. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jan 4, 2005 12 oz bottle. Deep solid gold, little head; grassy, herbal, very dry nose; body similarly dry, very herbal and woody, quite acerbic and a touch salty...finish thin, and again bone-dry. Interesting, like chewing on dry dry crusty bread; but not very drinkable. Braudog (3783), Dayton, Ohio, USA

I didn’t know ahead of time there was wild rice in it, but that might explain a few things... Kind of a weird hops taste, likely brought about by the wild rice. I’m not sure the flavors mesh well. Aroma was pretty weak. Watery. SledgeJr (3004), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Even though this was a better-than-ten-year-old bottle of beer, I don’t think that it could have been any better when fresh. Pretty watery. Not much color. Just nothing here. I suspect that this is more about the gimmick of wild rice growing in Minnesota and being linked to indigenous heritage and all that. Adjuncts are adjuncts. Pass on this, if it is still made. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 4, 2004 Mild aroma of corn. good appearance, gold with a sizeable head. Flavor of corn and hops. Good palate. Corn is the dominant feature of this better than average lager/pils. Nuffield (2749), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

Not quite the lustre of a microbrew that this projects. The aroma has a bit of apple, but also a lot of butterscotch--hmm...is this a brewing flaw, or just a nice caramel touch? It tastes o.k. to me, since I like butterscotch, so it’s not a problem. Big butterscotch flavor as well, with a faint smokiness. Golden color, some clinging head, adequate palate (moderately soft, moderately frothy). Curious aftertaste in the second half of the bottle, as it warms a bit. Not bad, not great.
