I was young to rate beer and didn't leave any comments on the first rating but i'm glad to say that JP is trying to put this back on the brewing list again and should be available tentatively for summer '04

I had no idea that they had changed the name. I used to drink this as "james page wild rice lager" I thought they had stopped brewin it. THAT WAS 13Y AGO! I am running out tomorrow and buying some! When I first became a beer snob i drank my weight in this stuff weekly. All i remember was being able to taste the wild rice, and a real smooth, slightly bitter finish. Great, now i am getting all misty.

On-Tap: Color is a hazy deep yellow, perhaps much like a hazy sunset over a lake, but not really, no head was served with it but there was a tiny white ring and some tiny spotty lace. Smell is a nice sweet and lightly zesty surge to it. Lemony light, yeasty, and a hard dry bread dough-like backing. Seems like easy paddling ahead. Taste is lemon citrusy and some light yeasty hold in the middle with a slight hop twinge and finishes a bit dry, a bit thin, but relaxed and firm with maybe to much malts making it uneven. The oars aren’t doing there job right on this trip. Feel is lighter to medium bodied, light yeasty grain feel in the middle and throughout the swallow, leading to a light dryness. Maybe lost direction on where to go after making the turn at smell point. From the smell I thought for sure this would be at least a good voyage, but it comes up short of portaging to the next lake.

melikes. corny like m'lady's mom's jokes. sweet like me upper lip, and a bit bitter with a dry mouthfeel. this ain't so shabby. the beer is sexy-- it just has that james page stigma attached to it. i'll buy it again for anther taste. it's more of a swiggin' beer than a sippin' beer, nonetheless.

Bottle courtesy of CharlesDarwin. An orange pour with a thin and fizzy light-tan head. A very unique aroma of freshly baked bread, vanilla extract and malts. The wild rice smell really shows up as it warms. Smooth, sweet stuff. Quite doughy. A little herbal with hints of anise. Unique stuff all the way.

Nice amber hued gold, with a nice line of white crisp head. Effervescent. Sweet plain malt aroma, with a touch of grass. Flavor is pretty boring at first, of plain malt with the usual touch of hops. Ends with some caramel, more grass and a little saltiness. Not offensive, not amazing. Very drinkable and smooth. Palate is smooth and lightly sugary.

Had this one bottled. Light orange pour with a filmy white head, nose of sweet bread, notes of baked bread, hops and orange. Not bad.
